His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith says that the dictatorial frenzy that has emerged in the country under the guise of war is a fatal blow to the country’s democracy.
Therefore, the Cardinal stated that he requests the President and the current government to immediately repeal the current constitution and bring a new constitution in order to change the existing corrupt system and bring true freedom to the country.
The Cardinal said this while participating in the divine service held at All Saints Church in Borella this morning (04) to mark the 77th Independence Day.
The Cardinal also said that the leaders abused the unlimited power they received within the legal framework that paved the way for the dictatorial system called the Presidential Constitution, and said that as a result, a rift between nations that could have been easily resolved turned into a war, creating a terrifying situation in the country.
The Cardinal also said that the rulers who were elected thereafter had committed acts of terror such as media suppression, disappearances of journalists, the white van culture and imprisonment of opponents since the 1990s.
The Cardinal also said that the homeland was plunged into a deep economic decline due to the devastating war, and that this process had intensified in the last two decades.
He further said,
“The government that was established after the popular uprising called the struggle often acted through this method of madness. The governments that existed after 1978, taken as a whole, often acted by using dictatorial powers as they pleased. The worst act of these was to shamelessly apply the law of the country as they wished. We have seen how the courts are being suppressed and the decisions given by the courts that are unfavorable to them are being underestimated. In the dictatorial frenzy that arose in the country under the guise of war, a pattern emerged in the country where they abused their unlimited power in Parliament without conscience as they wished…
The dictatorial constitution, which is the cause of all the current disasters in this country, can be considered as a death blow to the democracy of our country, as the source of the culture of terror that has soaked our country’s modern democracy with blood, and as the summary of the unjust structures that have allowed lawlessness. Therefore, that constitution should be immediately abolished and a new constitution should be brought to allow all sections of the people to be united like children of one mother, without giving any space to corruption, terror, and lawlessness that can create a religious, cultural, and social innovation in the country. “No one with a conscience can continue to support the current constitution.”

යුද්ධයේ මුවාවෙන් රට තුළ බිහි වූ ඒකාධිපති වියරුව රටේ ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදයට එල්ල වූ මරු පහරක් බව අතිඋතුම් මැල්කම් කාදිනල් රංජිත් හිමිපාණෝ පවසති.
එනිසා පවතින දූෂිත ක්රමවේදය වෙනස් කර රටට සැබෑ නිදහස උදාකර දීම වෙනුවෙන් වහාම වත්මන් ව්යවස්ථාව අහෝසි කර නව ව්යවස්ථාවක් ගෙන එන ලෙස ජනපති ඇතුළු වත්මන් රජයෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින බව කාදිනල් හිමියන් සඳහන් කළේය.
77 වන නිදහස් දිනය නිමිත්තෙන් අද (04) උදෑසන බොරැල්ලේ සියලු ශාන්තුවරුන්ගේ දේවස්ථානයේ දී පැවති දිව්ය පුජාවට එක්වෙමින් උන්වහන්සේ මේ බව පැවසීය.
ජනාධිපති ව්යවස්ථාව නැමති ඒකාධිපති ක්රමයට පාර කපා දුන් නීති රාමුව තුළ නායකයින් තමන්ට ලැබුණු අසීමිත බලය අවභාවිත කළ බව ද කියා සිටි කාදිනල් හිමි, මෙහි ප්රතිඵලයක් ලෙස ජාතීන් අතර පහසුවෙන් විසඳා ගැනීමට තිබූ විරසකයක් යුද්ධයකට හරවා රට තුළ භීෂණකාරී තත්ත්වයක් උදාකරලීම බව ද කියා සියේය.
ඉන් අනතුරුව පත්වූ පාලකයින් විසින් මාධ්ය මර්දනය, මාධ්යවේදීන් අතුරුදන් කිරීම්, සුදුවෑන් සංස්කෘතිය හා විරුද්ධවාදීන් සිරගත කිරීම ආදි භීෂණ ක්රියා ද 90 දශකයේ සිට නිර්මාණ කළ බව ද කාදිනල් හිමි පැවසීය.
විනාශකාරී යුද්ධය නිසාවෙන් මව්බිම ගැඹුරු ආර්ථික පරිහානියකට ගොඳුරු වූ බවත් පැවසු උන්වහන්සේ, මෙම ගමන්මඟ පසුගිය දශක දෙක තුළ වඩාත් උත්සන්න වූ බව ද කියා සිටියේය.
ඔහු එහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියේ,
“අරගලය නැමති ජනතා නැගී සිටීමෙන් පසුව ස්ථාපිත වූ රජය ද බොහෝවිට ක්රියා කළේ, මේ වියරුවේ ක්රමවේදය හරහාය. පැවති රජයන් සමස්තයක් ලෙස ගත්කළ 1978න් පසුව බොහෝවිට ක්රියාකළේ, ඒකාධිපති බලතල තමන්ට රිසි ලෙස භාවිත කරමිනි. මේ අයගේ දරුණුම ක්රියාදාමය වුයේ, රටේ නීතිය තමන් කැමති ලෙස යොදවා ගන්නට නිරිලජ්ජිතව ක්රියාකිරීමයි. උසාවිය මර්දනයට හා උසාවියෙන් ලබාදුන් තමන්ට අවාසි සහගත තීන්දු තීරණ අවතක්සේරුවට භාජනයට වන අයුරින් ක්රියාකරන අයුරු අපි දුටුවෙමි. යුද්ධයේ මුවාවෙන් රට තුළ බිහිවු ඒකාධිපති වියරුව තුළ තමන්ට රිසි ලෙස පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ තමන් සතු අසීමිත බලය හෘද සාක්ෂියකින් තොරව ඔවුන් අවභාවිත කළ රටාවක් රට තුළ බිහිවුණි…
මේ රටේ දැන් පවතින සියලුම ව්යවසනයන්ට හේතුවෙන ඒකාධිපති ව්යවස්ථාව අප රටේ ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදයට එල්ල වූ මරු පහරක් ලෙස ද අපේ රටේ නුතන ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදය ලෙයින් තෙත් කළ භීෂණ සංස්කෘතියේ උල්පත ලෙස ද අවනීතියට ඉඩදුන් අසාධාරණ ව්යුහයන්ගේ සංක්ෂිප්තය ලෙස ද සැලකිය හැකි නිසා එම ව්යවස්ථාව වහා අහෝසි කර රට තුළ ආගමික, සංස්කෘතික හා සමාජීය නවෝදයක් ඇති කළ හැකි දුෂණයට, භීෂණයට හා අවනීතියට කිසිදු ඉඩක් ලබානොදෙන සියලු ජන කොටස් එක මවකගේ දරුවන් මෙන් එකතු කරන්නට ඉඩ සලස්සන්නට නව ව්යවස්ථාවක් ගෙන ආ යුතුයි. වත්මන් ව්යවස්ථාවට අනුබල දීම හෘද සාක්ෂියක් ඇති කිසිවෙකුට තවදුරටත් කළ නොහැකියි.
