This year, we celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, which symbolizes the hope of physical and spiritual renewal, at a time when we are achieving many achievements as a country and are engaged in a continuous struggle for the dream of creating a better and new land.
We have succeeded in rebuilding our country, which had fallen into the abyss, in the past few months and raising it to a new level economically, socially and politically. The people of this country own all those achievements, and it must be emphasized that the trust they placed in us in the last presidential election and the general election led to our country taking us to such a transformative event.
As a responsible government, we have the courage to fulfill our responsibility for the country even more strongly in the face of challenges, and the government is currently implementing the necessary plans to overcome all kinds of challenges facing the country, both in geopolitics and nationally.
The uniqueness of the physical and spiritual interaction between man and nature is illustrated by the rituals and customs of New Year. They are a living testimony to the historical bond and coexistence between the Sinhalese and Tamil nations. Although the current society has been torn apart due to various divisions, celebrations such as New Year once again point out through cultures to remove such divisions and preserve unity, harmony and coexistence. It is our great responsibility in this New Year to encourage that coexistence and create an ethical existence within ourselves that is sensitive to others.
Also, the common expectation of all the customs that follow the solar transmigration is to renew people’s lives and create a new man free from backward thinking and attitudes. The New Year truly becomes a new beginning for our lives through such renewal. I invite everyone to unite in this coming New Year with greater strength and brotherhood for a single purpose, in order to successfully implement the national program that will achieve the new economic, social and political transformation needed by the country and win the country and the people.
May you all have a prosperous and happy New Year, filled with hope on the journey towards “A Rich Country – A Beautiful Life”!

අලුත් අවුරුද්දේ එකම අරමුණකට පෙළ ගැසෙමු
භෞතිකව හා ආධ්යාත්මිකව අලුත් වීමේ අපේක්ෂාව සංකේතවත් කරන, සිංහල හා දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුද්ද අප මෙවර සමරන්නේ රටක් ලෙස ජයග්රහණ රැසක් අත් පත් කර ගනිමින් හා යහපත් හා අලුත් දේශයක් නිර්මාණය කර ගැනීමේ සිහිනය වෙනුවෙන් අනවරත වැඩ අරගලයක යෙදෙමින් සිටින අවස්ථාවකය.
අගාධයට ඇද වැටී තිබු අප රට පසුගිය මාස කිහිපය තුළ නැවත ගොඩනඟමින්, ආර්ථික, සමාජයීය සහ දේශපාලනික වශයෙන් නව තලයකට ඔසවා තැබීමට අපි සමත් වූයෙමු. එම සියලු ජයග්රහණයන්හි හිමිකම මෙරට ජනතාව සතු වන අතර පසුගිය ජනාධිපතිවරණයේදී සහ මහ මැතිවරණයේදී ඔවුන් අප කෙරෙහි තැබූ විශ්වාසය අප රට මෙවන් පරිවර්තනීය ඉසව්වකට කැඳවා ගෙන යාමට හේතු වූ බව අවධාරණය කළ යුතුය.
අභියෝග හමුවේ නොසැලි රට වෙනුවෙන් අපගේ වගකීම තවත් ශක්තිමත්ව ඉටු කිරීමේ ධෛර්ය වගකිව යුතු රජයක් ලෙස අප සතු අතර, භූ දේශපාලනය තුළ මෙන්ම ජාතික වශයෙන්ද රට ඉදිරියේ ඇති සියලු ආකාරයේ අභියෝග ජය ගැනීමට අවශ්ය සැලසුම් රජය මේ වන විට ක්රියාවට නංවමින් සිටියි.
මිනිසාත්, සොබාදහමත් අතර පවත්නා වූ භෞතික හා ආධ්යාත්මික ගනුදෙනුවෙහි අපූර්වත්වය අලුත් අවුරුදු චාරිත්ර-වාරිත්රවලින් නිරූපිතය. ඒවා සිංහල දෙමළ ජාතීන් අතර පැවති ෙඑතිහාසික බැඳීම හා සහජීවන පැවැත්ම පිළිබඳ ජීවමාන සාක්ෂියකි. වත්මන් සමාජය විවිධ බෙදීම් හේතුවෙන් ඉරි තලා ගොස් ඇතත්, අලුත් අවුරුද්ද වැනි සැමරුම් සංස්කෘතීන් තුළින් යළි පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ එවන් භේද දුරලා එකමුතුකම, සමගිය හා සහජීවනය සුරැකීමටය. එම සහජීවනය දිරිමත් කරමින් අනෙකා පිළිබඳ සංවේදී වන ආචාරධාර්මික පැවැත්මක් අප තුළම නිර්මාණය කර ගැනීම මෙම අලුත් අවුරුද්දේ අපට පැවරී තිබෙන භාරදුර වගකීමයි.
එසේම, සූර්ය සංක්රාන්තියට අනුගාමීව සිදු කෙරෙන සියලු සිරිත්විරිත්හි පොදු අපේක්ෂාව වන්නේ ජන ජීවිත අලුත් කර ගැනීම හා පසුගාමී චින්තනයෙන් සහ ආකල්පවලින් තොර අලුත් මිනිසෙකු නිර්මාණය කර ගැනීමයි. අලුත් අවුරුද්ද සැබැවින්ම අපේ ජිවිතවලට නව ඇරඹුමක් වන්නේ අප එලෙස අලුත්වීම මගිනි. රටට අවැසි නව ආර්ථික, සමාජයීය සහ දේශපාලනික පරිවර්තනයක් සාක්ෂාත් කෙරෙන ජාතික වැඩපිළිවෙළ සාර්ථක කර ගනිමින් රටත්, ජනතාවත් දිනවීම පිණිස මේ එළැඹෙන අලුත් අවුරුද්දේ තවත් සවිමත්ව, සහෝදරත්වයෙන් එකම අරමුණකට පෙළගැසෙන්නට මම සියලු දෙනාට ඇරයුම් කරමි.
ඔබ සැමට “පොහොසත් රටක් – ලස්සන ජීවිතයක්” කරා යන ගමනේ බලාපොරොත්තු දැල්වෙන, සෞභාග්යවත් සුබ අලුත් අවුරුද්දක් වේවා !
