The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has recommended to the government that it is essential to reconsider the tariff rates imposed by this country on goods sent to foreign markets and those countries on goods in our country.
The latest Economic Outlook Report (2024) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has recommended this. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka says that any tariff imposed by the US on Sri Lankan exports can have a major impact on the country’s export sector and therefore risks should be considered for prompt intervention.
The Central Bank also says that it is essential to review tariff structures, especially considering reciprocal tariffs (tariffs imposed between countries).
The Central Bank has also pointed out in the report that the impact of the US government’s tariff changes on Sri Lanka’s other trading partner countries may also have an adverse impact on Sri Lanka’s exports.
The report, which points out that the potential slowdown in the global economy due to changes in the US government’s tariff policies could also affect remittances from foreign workers to Sri Lanka, further emphasizes that due to this uncertain global environment, it is essential to actively implement free trade agreements and increase policy preparedness to use opportunities for trade diversion to Sri Lanka’s advantage.

මෙරට විසින් විදේශීය වෙළෙඳපොළට යවන භාණ්ඩ සඳහා පනවා ඇති සහ අප රටේ භාණ්ඩ සඳහා එම රටවල් පනවා ඇති තීරුබදු අනුපාතයන් නැවත සලකා බැලීම අත්යවශ්ය බවට ශ්රී ලංකා මහ බැංකුව රජයට නිර්දේශ කර ඇත.
ශ්රී ලංකා මහ බැංකුවේ නවතම ආර්ථික විවරණ වාර්තාව (2024) මගින් මේ බවට නිර්දේශ කර තිබේ. ඇමෙරිකාව විසින් ශ්රී ලංකාවේ අපනයන සඳහා පනවන ඕනෑම තීරු බද්දකින් රටේ අපනයන අංශයට විශාල බලපෑමක් ඇති කළ හැකි බවත් ඒ නිසා ඉක්මනින් මැදිහත් වීම සඳහා අවදානම් තත්ත්වයන් සලකා බැලිය යුතු බවත් ශ්රී ලංකා මහ බැංකුව කියයි.
විශේෂයෙන් අන්යොන්ය තීරු බදු (රටවල් අතර ක්රියාත්මක තීරු බදු) පිළිබඳව සලකා බලා තීරු බදු ව්යුහයන් නැවත සමාලෝචනය කිරීම අත්යවශ්ය බවද මහ බැංකුව කියයි.
ඇමෙරිකානු රජයේ තීරු බදු වෙනස්කම්වලින් ශ්රී ලංකාවේ අනෙකුත් වෙළෙඳ හවුල්කාර රටවලටද ඇති විය හැකි බලපෑම නිසාද ශ්රී ලංකාවේ අපනයනයට අහිතකර බලපෑම් ඇති විය හැකි බවද මහ බැංකුව එම වාර්තාව මගින් පෙන්වා දී ඇත.
ඇමෙරිකානු රජයේ තීරු බදු ප්රතිපත්ති වෙනස්කම් නිසා ලෝක ආර්ථිකයේ ඇතිවිය හැකි පසුබෑම නිසා ශ්රී ලංකාවට ලැබෙන විදේශ සේවා නියුක්තිකයන්ගේ ප්රේෂණවලට ද බලපෑම ඇති විය හැකි බවත් පෙන්වාදෙන එම වාර්තාව තවදුරටත් අවධාරණය කරන්නේ මේ අවිනිශ්චිත ලෝක පරිසරය නිසා නිදහස් වෙළෙඳ ගිවිසුම් සක්රියව ක්රියාත්මක කිරීම සහ භාණ්ඩ වෙළෙඳාම විතැන්වීමේ (වෙනස්වීමේ) අවස්ථා ශ්රී ලංකාවට වාසිදායක ලෙස යොදා ගැනීම ප්රතිපත්තිමය සූදානම ඉහළ නැංවීම අත්යවශ්ය බවයි.
