I extend my best wishes to the Sinhalese and Tamil people of Sri Lanka who are celebrating the New Year with unity and generosity.
This New Year comes at a time when it is essential to renew every aspect of our lives. This traditional festival reminds us that we must move forward with unity and purpose – rooted in our culture and values – to achieve positive change and achieve goals.
In recent history, the economic crisis has made it difficult for many to even think about celebrating the New Year. However, the courageous efforts of the people to break free from the cycle of corruption and fraud have paved the way for a new beginning.
The 2025 New Year celebrations therefore mark a special milestone. It is a year when all communities, North, South, East and West, have come together under democratic principles to build a better future. In the coming May, those people’s aspirations will once again bear fruit.
As we begin the new chapter of the New Year, I urge every citizen to act with respect, peace and compassion within your own communities. Let us resolve to act with commitment, confidence and resilience to achieve success and progress in the year ahead.
To all Sri Lankans celebrating this Sinhala and Tamil New Year, I wish the Sri Lankan nation a fresh transformation and strength, unity and renewed vigor for a prosperous tomorrow…!

එකමුතුකම,සහජීවනය පිරුණු සමෘද්ධිමත් හෙට දවසක් ගොඩනැගීමට ශක්තිය ලැබෙන වාසනාවන්ත සුබ නව වසරක් වේවා – අගමැතිනිය
“පොහොසත් රටක්, ලස්සන ජීවිතයක්” සඳහා එක්ව කටයුතු කරන අතරතුර, අලුත් බලාපොරොත්තුවකින් සහ නැවුම් ඉදිරි දැක්මකින් යුතුව අපි අලුත් අවුරුද්ද පිළිගනිමු.
එකමුතුකමෙන් සහ ත්යාගශීලි බවින් යුතුව අලුත් අවුරුද්ද සමරන ශ්රී ලාංකික සිංහල සහ දෙමළ ජනතාව වෙත මගේ සුබ පැතුම් පිරිනමමි.
අපගේ ජීවිතයේ සෑම අංශයක්ම අලුත් කිරීම අත්යවශ්ය වන මොහොතක මෙවර අලුත් අවුරුද්ද උදා වෙයි. අපගේ සංස්කෘතිය හා වටිනාකම් තුළ මුල් බැසගත් – ධනාත්මක වෙනසක් ලඟාකර ගැනීමට සහ අරමුණු පෙරදැරිව, එකමුතුකමෙන් ඉදිරියට යායුතු බව මේ සාම්ප්රදායික උත්සවය අපට සිහිපත් කරදෙයි.
මෑත ඉතිහාසයේදී ආර්ථික අර්බුදය, බොහෝ දෙනෙකුට අවුරුදු සැමරීමේ සිතුවිල්ල පවා දුෂ්කර කොට තිබිණි. කෙසේ වෙතත්, දූෂණ, වංචා චක්රයකින් මිදීමට ජනතාව ගත් නිර්භීත උත්සාහයෙන්, නව ආරම්භයකට මග පෑදී ඇත.
2025 වසර අලුත් අවුරුදු සැමරුම සුවිශේෂී සන්ධිස්ථානයක් සනිටුහන් කරන්නේ එහෙයිනි. එය, උතුර දකුණ නැගෙනහිර සහ බටහිර පුරා සියලුම ප්රජාවන් වඩා සුබදායී අනාගතයක් ගොඩනැගීම සඳහා ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදී මූලධර්ම යටතේ එක්වූ සහ එක්වෙමින් සිටින වසරකි. එළඹෙන මැයි මාසයේදී ඒ ජනතා පැතුම් යළිත් මල්පල දරනු ඇත.
නව වසරේ නව පරිච්ඡේදය ආරම්භ කරන මොහොතේ, ඔබේම ප්රජාවන් තුළ ගෞරවය, සාමය සහ සහකම්පනයෙන් යුතුව කටයුතු කරන ලෙස මම සෑම පුරවසියෙකුගෙන්ම ඉල්ලා සිටිමි. ඉදිරි වසර තුළ සාර්ථකත්වය සහ ප්රගතිය අත්කර ගැනීම සඳහා කැපවීම, විශ්වාසය සහ ඔරොත්තු දීමේ හැකියාව ඇතිව කටයුතු කිරීමට අපි අදිටන් කරගනිමු.
මෙම සිංහල දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුද්ද සමරන සියලුම ශ්රී ලාංකිකයින් වෙත, ශ්රී ලාංකීය ජාතියට නැවුම් පරිවර්තනයක් සහ සෞභාග්යමත් හෙට දවසක් උදෙසා වන ශක්තිය, එකමුතුකම සහ නව ජවය ලැබේවායි මම ප්රාර්ථනා කරමි…!
ඔබ සැමට සුබ අලුත් අවුරුද්දක් වේවා…!
