The Ceylon Electricity Board has announced that it has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the Sahasdanavi Power Plant.
Issuing a statement, the Electricity Board said that the power plant will be constructed, owned and operated by Sahasdanavi Company Limited.
Accordingly, its ownership is scheduled to be transferred to the Ceylon Electricity Board after 25 years.
This will be implemented with the aim of providing reliable and low-cost electricity to domestic and business consumers in Sri Lanka.
The construction of the 350 MW Sahasdanavi Combined Cycle Power Plant, which was approved by the Public Utilities Commission, is scheduled to commence immediately.
The plant will initially be operated in open-cycle mode and will supply electricity to the national grid within 30 months.
It is then scheduled to commence full combined cycle operations in another 12 months.

නිවේදනයක් නිකුත්කරමින් විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලය පවසා සිටියේ, මෙම බලාගාරය ඉදිකිරීම, අයිතිය සහ මෙහෙයවීම සීමාසහිත සහස්දනවි සමාගම විසින් සිදු කරන බවයි.
ඒ අනුව වසර 25කට පසු එහි හිමිකාරිත්වය ලංකා විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලයට පවරා දීමට නියමිතව තිබේ.
ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ගෘහස්ත සහ ව්යාපාරික පාරිභෝගිකයන් සඳහා විශ්වසනීය හා අඩු මිලට විදුලිබලය ලබාදීමේ අරමුණින් මෙය ක්රියාත්මක වනු ඇත.
මහජන උපයෝගීතා කොමිසම අනුමතකළ මෙගාවොට් 350ක සහස්දනවි සංයුක්ත චක්රීය විදුලි බලාගාරයේ ඉදිකිරීම් කඩිනමින් ආරම්භ කිරීමට නියමිත බවයි.
එම බලාගාරය පළමුව විවෘත චක්රීය ක්රියාකාරිත්වයෙන්, මාස 30ක් ඇතුළත ජාතික විදුලි ජාලයට විදුලිය සපයනු ලැබේ.
ඉන් අනතුරුව තවත් මාස 12කින් එය සම්පූර්ණ සංයුක්ත චක්රීය මෙහෙයුම් ආරම්භ කිරීමට නියමිතව ඇත.
