The country’s economy is currently operating through an extremely oppressive IMF agreement and when the current government was in opposition, it was said that relief would be provided to the people through a new IMF agreement during the presidential and general elections, but now the previous government is implementing the same agreement and is questioning the government as to whether a background has been created to successfully carry out the debt restructuring process, and the opposition leader said that it is the government’s responsibility to reveal the truth to the people.
The opposition leader further said that the real truth facing the country is that we need to complete a number of key goals for our country, including rapid economic growth and maintaining high state revenue, and if we do not do so, we will have to go through another debt restructuring program in another 2-3 years. He said this firmly and that even in the past, even though he laughed when he made such predictions, they all came true.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said this while addressing a public meeting held in Ibbagamuwa, Kurunegala on 3/02/2025.
When the IMF agreements signed by various countries in the world were counted and their success was looked at, 59% of the signed agreements were for debt restructuring, and these facts are being hidden from the public, no one is telling the public, and going for another debt restructuring program means causing the public distress and trouble, and it is challenging, and since the journey ahead is likely to be fraught with many problems, we as a country must face those challenges and protect the country, and therefore, we should not be afraid to discuss with the IMF, said Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
The Opposition Leader said that at this moment, hundreds of thousands of people in our country are facing a multitude of problems and issues and are awaiting answers to those problems and challenges. The people of a country appoint a government to implement a program that will create a good atmosphere for the people and the country through good and strong policies, to provide answers to problems, and that questions should be asked about what happened in the short time since the presidential and general elections were held. The solutions given by the government to the problems faced by the general public should be questioned, and this is a litmus test related to government governance.

රට මුහුණ දී ඇති සැබෑ සත්ය නම් අප රටට ප්රධාන ඉලක්ක ගණනාවක් සම්පූර්න කළ යුතු බවත් ඒ අතර වේගවත් ආර්ථික වර්ධනය සහ ඉහළ රාජ්ය ආදායමක් පවත්වා ගැනීම බවත් එය එසේ නොකරන්නේ නම් තව වසර 2-3ක් යන විට තවත් ණය ප්රතිව්යුහගතකරණ වැඩපිළිවෙළකට යා යුතු බවත් මේ කතාව තමා ස්ථිරවම කියන බවත් තමා පසුගිය කාලයේ පවා මෙවැනි අනාවැකි කියන විට හිනා වුණත් ඒවා හැම දෙයක්ම සත්ය වූ බවත් විපක්ෂ නායකවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.
