Mahinda Rajapaksa said that he is ready to leave the official residence provided to him at any time and that he is not ready to stay for a moment by force.
He stated that he has not been informed in writing to vacate the official residence so far and that he will leave it after being so informed.
He said that even if he takes back everything he has received from the government as a former president, Mahinda Rajapaksa is not a person who complains.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said this in response to a query made by the media regarding the public statement made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake that if he continues to stay in the official residence, he must pay a monthly rent of Rs. 4.6 million or else he must vacate the said residence.
The former President stated that the Constitution clearly states that a former head of state should be provided with a suitable house to live in without rent, and accordingly, he stated that he will be residing in this official residence.
He stated that although the President can take any decision in this regard, this cannot stop his political journey.
Following the President’s public statement regarding the former President’s official residence, former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, MPs and party members were seen arriving at the official residence on Wijerama Mawatha to meet the former President.

නිල නිවෙසේ දිගට ම රැඳී සිටින්නේ නම් ඒ සඳහා රුපියල් 46 ලක්ෂයක මාසික කුලියක් ගෙවිය යුතු බව ත් එසේ නැති නම් ඔහු එම නිවසින් ඉවත් විය යුතු බවට ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක කර තිබෙන ප්රසිද්ධ ප්රකාශය සම්බන්ධයෙන් මධ්යයෙන් කළ විමසුමකට පිළිතුරු දෙමින් හිටපු ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මේ බව පැවසීය.
හිටපු රාජ්ය නායකයෙකුට වාසය සඳහා උචිත නිවසක් කුලියකින් තොරව සැපයිය යුතු බවට ව්යවස්ථාවෙන් ඉතා පැහැදිලි ලෙස සඳහන් කර ඇතැයි පැවැසූ හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයා ඒ අනුව තමා මෙම නිල නිවසේ වාසය කරන බව සඳහන් කළේය.
ජනාධිපතිවරයාට මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඕනෑම තීන්දුවක් ගත හැකි වුවත් මෙමගින් තම දේශපාලන ගමන නැවැත්විය නොහැකි බව ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.
හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ නිල නිවෙස සම්බන්ධයෙන් ජනාධිපතිවරයා කළ ප්රසිද්ධ ප්රකාශයෙන් පසුව හිටපු ජනාධිපතිවරයා හමුවීමට විජේරාම මාවතේ නිල නිවසට හිටපු ඇමැතිවරයෙකු වූ ප්රසන්න රණතුංග ඇතුළු මැති ඇමැතිවරුන් හා පාක්ෂිකයන් පැමිණෙන අයුරු දැක ගත හැකි විය.
