The Cabinet has approved the implementation of the government nutrition program to provide meals to school children in the year 2025.
Currently, the “School Food Program” is being implemented in 8,956 schools in 100 education zones of the island, covering a total of 1.4 million students, including students in grades 1-5 of all government schools, all students in schools with less than 100 students, students in special education units or schools, and lay students of selected Pirivenas.
The proposal submitted by the Prime Minister, as the Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, to implement the program in a more planned manner from the year 2025 onwards and to provide budgetary provisions to benefit the total number of students annually, subject to a maximum of 1.5 million.

මේ වනවිට සියලුම රජයේ පාසල් වල 1-5 ශ්රේණිවල සිසුන්, ශිෂ්ය සංඛ්යාව 100 ට අඩු පාසල් වල සියලුම සිසුන්, විශේෂ අධ්යාපන ඒකක හෝ පාසල්වල සිසුන් සහ තෝරාගත් පිරිවෙන්වල ගිහි සිසුන් ඇතුළු සමස්ත සිසුන් මිලියන 1.4ක් ආවරණය වන පරිදි දිවයිනේ අධ්යාපන කලාප 100ට අයත් පාසල් 8,956ක “පාසල් ආහාර වැඩසටහන” ක්රියාත්මක කරනු ලබනවා.
එම වැඩසටහන වඩාත් සැලසුම් සහගතව 2025 වර්ෂයේ සිට ඉදිරියට ක්රියාත්මක කිරීමටත්, වාර්ෂිකව මුළු ශිෂ්ය සංඛ්යාව මිලියන 1.5 ක උපරිමයට යටත්ව ප්රතිලාභ සලසා දීමට හැකි වන පරිදි අයවැය ප්රතිපාදන සලසා ගැනීමටත් අධ්යාපන, උසස් අධ්යාපන සහ වෘත්තීය අධ්යාපන අමාත්යවරිය වශයෙ අග්රාමාත්යවරිය ඉදිරිපත් කළ යෝජනාව අමාත්ය මණ්ඩලය විසින් අනුමත කරනු ලැබුවා.
