The Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, instructed officials to discuss with the Ministry of Finance and explore the possibility of providing loans at a low interest rate to regional journalists to purchase professional equipment.
The Minister gave these instructions while participating in a discussion held with representatives of the Colombo Journalists Association at the Ministry of Health premises yesterday (15).
The Colombo Journalists Association submitted a memorandum containing 11 requests on behalf of regional journalists in the country to the Minister, and the Minister engaged in a lengthy discussion with officials of the Ministry of Mass Media to investigate the matters included in the memorandum. The Minister said that steps will be taken to identify the problems of regional journalists who are engaged in the media profession by making great sacrifices and provide them with the necessary facilities to engage in the media profession more actively, and to organize a series of residential and short-term training programs to develop their professional skills.
Here, the Minister instructed the officials to provide immediate solutions to several of the issues raised by the representatives and said that he would take steps to fulfill several other requests. The Minister focused his attention on re-establishing an insurance scheme for regional journalists and instructed the officials to prepare a formal plan for that.
The Minister stated that he would agree to a number of requests made by regional journalists, including issuing the identity card issued by the Government Information Department for journalists only to active journalists from now on, and steps will be taken to fulfill those requests.
Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that his government greatly appreciates the professional commitment of regional journalists and understands that these journalists are a group that is more satisfied with the satisfaction they receive from the service provided than the benefits they receive.

කොළඹ ජනමාධ්යවේදීන්ගේ සංගමයේ නියෝජිතයන් සමඟ සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යංශ පරීශ්රයේ ඊයේ (15) පැවති සාකච්ඡාවකට එක් වෙමින් ඇමැතිවරයා මේ උපදෙස් දුන්නේය.
මෙරට ප්රාදේශීය මාධ්යවේදීන් වෙනුවෙන් ඉල්ලීම් 11ක් ඇතුළත් සංදේශයක් කොළඹ ජනමාධ්යවේදීන්ගේ සංගමය මෙහිදී ඇමැතිවරයා වෙත ලබාදුන් අතර එම සංදේශයේ ඇතුළත් කරුණු පිළිබඳ ජනමාධ්ය අමාත්යාංශයේ නිලධාරීන් ද සම්බන්ධ කර ගනිමින් ඇමැතිවරයා දීර්ඝ සාකච්ඡාවක නිරත වෙමින් කරුණු සොයා බැලීය. විශාල කැපකිරීම් සිදු කරමින් මාධ්ය වෘත්තියේ නියැළෙන ප්රාදේශීය ජනමාධ්යවේදීන්ගේ ගැටලු හඳුනාගෙන ඔවුන්ට වඩා සක්රියව මාධ්ය වෘත්තීයේ නියැළීමට අවශ්ය පහසුකම් සැලසීමටත්, එමෙන්ම සිය වෘත්තීය නිපුණතාව වර්ධනය කර ගැනීම සඳහා නේවාසික හා කෙටිකාලීන පුහුණු වැඩසටහන් මාලාවක් සංවිධානය කිරීමටත් පියවර ගන්නා බව ඇමැතිවරයා පැවසීය.
මෙහිදී එම නියෝජිතයන් ඉදිරිපත් කළ කරුණු කිහිපයකටම අදාළ විසඳුම් ඒ මොහොතේම ලබා දීමට ඇමැතිවරයා නිලධාරීන්ට උපදෙස් ලබාදුන් අතර තවත් ඉල්ලීම් කිහිපයක්ම ඉටු කර දීමට තමා පියවර ගන්නා බව ඇමැතිවරයා කියා සිටියේය. ප්රාදේශීය ජනමාධ්යවේදීන් වෙනුවෙන් රක්ෂණ යෝජනා ක්රමයක් යළි ඇති කිරීමට මෙහිදී ඇමැතිවරයා සිය අවධානය යොමු කළ අතර ඒ සඳහා විධිමත් සැලැස්මක් සකස් කරන ලෙස නිලධාරීන්ට උපදෙස් ලබා දුන්නේය.
මාධ්යවේදීන් සඳහා රජයේ ප්රවෘත්ති දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවෙන් නිකුත් කරනු ලබන හැඳුනුම්පත මින් ඉදිරියට ක්රියාකාරී මාධ්යවේදීන්ට පමණක් නිකුත් කිරීම ඇතුළු ප්රාදේශීය මාධ්යවේදීන්ගේ ඉල්ලීම් රාශියකට සිය එකඟතාව පළ කරමින් එම ඉල්ලීම් ඉටු කිරීමට පියවර ගන්නා බව ඇමැතිවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.
ප්රාදේශීය මාධ්යවේදීන්ගේ වෘත්තීය කැපවීම තම රජය බෙහෙවින් අගය කරන බවත් එම මාධ්යවේදීන් ඔවුන්ට ලැබෙන ප්රතිලාභයන්ට වඩා සපයන සේවාවෙන් ලබන්නාවූ තෘප්තිමත්භාවයෙන් සෑහීමකට පත්වන පිරිසක් බව හොඳින්ම තේරුම්ගෙන ඇති බවත් සෞඛ්ය හා ජනමාධ්ය ඇමැති වෛද්ය නලින්ද ජයතිස්ස මහතා පැවසීය.
