The wonderful Christmas commemorating the birth of the baby Jesus, who brought the message of peace to the world, dawned at midnight.
The main Christmas service was held at midnight yesterday at the Ja-Ela Vikshopa Mata Church.
The word Christmas, which is derived from the Latin word natale, means birth.
That wonderful night when Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born in a poor stable in Bethlehem from the motherhood of Mary, has been loved and respected by Christians as Christmas.
Christmas, the universal festival commemorating the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace who united heaven and earth, has a message of love, peace, joy, sharing, sacrifice, mutual understanding, as well as humility and religious harmony.
Christmas is celebrated annually on December 25 to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, who is revered and respected by the people of the world as the Prince of Peace.

දේව පුත්රයානන් වන ජේසුස් ක්රිස්තුස් වහන්සේ මිනිසත්බව ගෙන මරියතුමියගේ මාතෘත්වයෙන් බෙත්ලෙහෙමේ දුගී ගවලෙනක උපන් ඒ අසිරිමත් රාත්රිය නත්තල ලෙස කිතුනුවන්ගේ ආදරයටත්, ගෞරවයටත් පාත්ර වී තිබෙනවා.
සුරලොවත්, මනුලොවත් යාකළ සාමයේ කුමරුවන් වන ජේසු සමිඳුන්ගේ උපත සිහිකරන විශ්ව මංගල්යය වන නත්තල තුළ ප්රේමය, සාමය, සතුට, බෙදාගැනීම, පරිත්යාගය, අන්යෝනය අවබෝධය මෙන්ම නිහතමානී බවත් ආගමික සහජීවනය පිළිබඳ පණිවුඩයත් ගැබ්ව තිබෙනවා.
සාමයේ කුමාරයාණෝ ලෙස ලෝකවාසීන්ගේ භක්තියට හා ගෞරවයට පාත්ර වූ ජේසුස් ක්රිස්තුස් වහන්සේගේ උපත සැමරීම වෙනුවෙන් වාර්ෂිකව දෙසැම්බර් 25 වන දා නත්තල් උත්සවය සැමරීම සිදුවනවා.
