Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe says that the tax imposed on imported rice is not being done out of concern for the local farmers.
The minister points out that there is a discussion underway to remove the control price for a short period of time to resolve the problems that have arisen due to the rise in the dollar.
He also states that this has created a risk that consumers will have to buy rice at higher prices again.
Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe also states that he is concerned about whether there is any scope for making rice available in the market in a way that does not affect the farmers.
The minister said this while commenting on the request to remove the tax imposed on imported rice.

ඇමැතිවරයා පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ ඩොලරය ඉහළ යෑම නිසා මතුව ඇති ගැටලු නිරාකරණය සඳහා කෙටි කලකට පාලන මිල ඉවත් කිරීම පිළිබඳ සාකච්ඡාවක් සිදුවන බවයි.
මෙමගින් නැවත පාරිභෝගික ජනතාවට වැඩි මිලට සහල් ගැනීමට සිදුවීමේ අවදානමක් මතුව ඇති බව ද හෙතෙම සඳහන් කරයි.
ගොවි ජනතාවට බලපෑමක් නොවන ආකාරයට වෙළඳපොළේ සහල් සුලබ කිරීම සඳහා යම් ඉඩක් ඇත්දැයි සැලකිලිමත් වන බව ද ඇමති වසන්ත සමරසිංහ ප්රකාශ කරයි.
ආනයනික සහල් සඳහා පනවා ඇති බදු ඉවත් කිරීමේ ඉල්ලීම ගැන අදහස් දක්වමින් ඇමතිවරයා මේ බව කීය.
