The police have planned to implement a special traffic operation across the island from today (23) focusing on passenger buses and other vehicles.
According to the plan, the aim of this operation is to minimize the increasing number of road accidents involving passenger buses and other vehicles in recent days.
This operation, which is being implemented on the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police, is expected to be implemented until the end of the festive season.
During this period, the primary focus will be on inspecting public passenger buses.
Officers will specifically check whether drivers are driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
In addition, action will be taken against buses that drive recklessly, at high speed, violate traffic rules or have unsuitable tires or other technical defects.
Other types of vehicles will also be included in the operation.
Traffic officers will be deployed islandwide for 24-hour surveillance during the operation.
The public can report unsafe or reckless driving, including violations involving buses and other vehicles, through the hotline numbers 119 and 1997.
They can also contact the relevant police station or the mobile numbers of the designated traffic officers in their zones.
Furthermore, any video evidence of traffic violations or other offences can be sent via WhatsApp to the contact numbers provided.

වැඩබලන පොලිස්පතිවරයාගේ උපදෙස් පරිදි ක්රියාත්මක වන මෙම මෙහෙයුම උත්සව සමය අවසන් වනතුරු ක්රියාත්මක කිරීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වේ.
