The Professionals’ Trade Union Confederation says that its union is happy with the President’s decision regarding income tax.
Addressing a media briefing held on behalf of the federation today (20), General Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, Prabath Sugathadasa, said that a large number of professionals have left the country in the past due to the fact that the salaries of professionals are subject to tax.
He also said that professionals have been severely inconvenienced due to this tax system and have even had to hold various protests and strikes due to this.
He also said that the current government’s decision to increase this tax limit is a decision that has been taken by paying attention to professionals and considering their problems, so the decision is very important.
He said that due to this, the professionals will gather together and have a discussion with the President to justify this tax system, to find out how the tax system will be relaxed in the future and the steps taken to justify the existing tax system, as well as to present their concerns.
Speaking at the event, the Media Spokesperson of the Federation of University Teachers’ Unions, Charudatta Ilangasinghe, said that since a large amount of tax has been collected in the last two years, it has exceeded the expected tax revenue.
He also said that it is necessary to have a clear understanding of what decision has been taken regarding those who do not pay taxes and for what purposes the collected taxes have been used, so it was decided to have a discussion with the President in this regard.
He also said that since the new tax policy is expected to be implemented from January, the professionals are ready to continue fighting until the tax system is fair.

එම එකමුතුව වෙනුවෙන් අද (20) පැවැති මාධ්ය හමුවට එක්වූ රජයේ වෛද්ය නිලධාරීන්ගේ සංගමයේ ප්රධාන ලේකම් ප්රභාත් සුගතදාස මහතා පැවසුවේ පසුගිය කාලයේදී වෘත්තීයවේදීන්ගේ වැටුප බද්දට යටත් වීම හේතුවෙන් වෘත්තිකයන් විශාල පිරිසක් රට අත්හැර ගොස් ඇති බවය.
එමෙන්ම මෙම බදු ක්රමය හේතුවෙන් වෘත්තියවේදීන් දැඩි අපසුතාවයකට පත්වූ බවත් මේ හේතුවෙන් විවිධ උද්ඝෝෂණ සහ වැඩවර්ජන පවා සිදු කිරීමට සිදු වූ බවත් ඔහු පැවසීය.
වර්තමාන රජය මෙම බදු සීමාව වැඩි කිරීමට තීරණය කිරීම වෘත්තියවේදීන් ගැන අවධානය යොමු කරමින් ඔවුන්ගේ ප්රශ්න දෙස සිතා බලා ගෙන ඇති තීරණයක් බැවින් එම තීරණය ඉතා වැදගත් බවද ඔහු මෙහිදී පැවසීය.
මේ හේතුවෙන් වෘත්තියවේදීන් එකමුතුව රැස්වී මෙම බදු ක්රමය සාධාරණීකරණය කර ගැනීම සඳහා ජනාධිපතිවරයා සමග සාකච්ඡාවක් ලබා ගැනීමටත් ඉදිරියේදී බදු ක්රමය ලිහිල් කරන ආකාරය පිළිබඳව සහ පවතින බදු ක්රමය සාධාරණීකරණය කිරීම සඳහා ගන්නා පියවර පිළිබඳව දැනගැනීමටත් මෙන්ම තමන්ගේ ගැටළු ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමට පියවර ගන්නා බවද ඔහු පැවසීය.
මෙහිදී අදහස් දක්වමින් විශ්වවිද්යාල ආචාර්යවරුන්ගේ සමිති සම්මේලනයේ මාධ්ය ප්රකාශක චාරුදත්ත ඉලංගසිංහ මහතා පැවසුවේ පසුගිය අවුරුදු දෙක තුළ විශාල බදු ප්රමාණයක් අයකර ඇති බැවින් එය අපේක්ෂිත බදු ආදායමද ඉක්මවා ඇති බවය.
එමෙන්ම බදු නොගෙවන පිරිස් සම්බන්ධව ගෙන ඇති තීරණය කුමක්ද සහ එකතු කරගන්නා ලද බදු කුමන කාර්යන් සඳහා යොදවා ඇත්දැයි යන්න පැහැදිලි අවබෝධයක් ලබා ගැනීමට අවශ්ය වන බැවින් මේ සම්බන්ධව ජනාධිපතිවරයා සමග සාකච්ඡාවක් ලබා ගැනීමට තීරණය කළ බවත් ය.
එසේම නව බදු ප්රතිපත්තිය ජනවාරි මාසයේ සිට ක්රියාත්මක වනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කරන බැවින් බදු ක්රමය සාධාරණ වන තුරු වෘත්තියවේදීන් විසින් අඛණ්ඩව සටන් කිරීමට සූදානම් බවත් ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දක්වමින් පැවසීය.
