Sri Lanka Customs says that 67,000 metric tons of rice have been imported into the country during the period granted by the government for rice import.
It is stated that 67,000 metric tons of rice have been imported so far during the period granted, of which 28,500 metric tons are raw rice and the remaining 38,500 metric tons are Nadu rice.
As a remedy for the shortage of rice in the market, the government had granted permission to the private sector and government importers to import rice only until the 20th and later took steps to extend it.

වෙළෙඳපොළේ පවතින සහල් හිඟයට පිළියමක් ලෙස, සහල් ආනයනය සඳහා පෞද්ගලික අංශයට හා රජයේ ආනයනකරුවන්ට රජය අවසර ලබාදී තිබුණේ පසුගිය 20 වනදා දක්වා පමණක් වන අතර පසුව එය දීර්ඝ කිරීමට කටයුතු කළා.
