A group of officials from the Colombo Epidemiology Unit visited Jaffna and Point Pedro areas to investigate the spread of the flu virus in the Jaffna district, conducted an observation, met with health authorities and held a special discussion.
After visiting the Jaffna Hospital and Point Pedro Hospitals where the patients who had contracted the flu virus were reported, the team met with Dr. T. Sathyamoorthy, Director of the Yapanaya Hospital, and held a special discussion on the current situation.
Meanwhile, to inform the public about the current situation in the Jaffna district, Jaffna Regional Services Health Director K.A. Speaking at a media briefing, K.A. Kedeswaran said,
‘So far, 44 patients have been reported to the Yapanaya and Point Pedro Hospitals infected with the Hadithi virus, and 7 of them have died.
Since this virus has been reported in Point Pedro, Karaveddi and Chavakachcheri areas of Jaffna, anyone who has a fever should come to the nearest hospital and obtain a blood test report, K.A. Kedeswaran said.
The samples of several deceased patients were sent to Colombo and tests conducted so far have revealed that the virus in question is similar to the rat flu virus, so treatment of other patients has begun, while special programs have been initiated at the rural level to prevent the spread of the rat flu virus, he added.

අදාල උණ වෛරසයට ගොදුරු වූ රෝගීන් වාර්ථා වූ යාපනය රෝහල සහ පේදුරුතුඩුව රෝහල් වෙතට ගොස් අදාල කණ්ඩායම නිරීක්ෂණය කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව යපනය රෝහල් අධ්යක්ෂක වෛද්ය ටී. සත්යමූර්තී මහතා ඇතුලු පිරිසක් හමු වී පවතින වාතාවරණය පිලිබඳව විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවක නිරත විය.
මේ අතර යාපනය දිස්ත්රීක්කයේ පවතින වත්මන් වතාවරණය පිලිබඳව ජනතාව දැනුවත් කිරීම සඳහා යාපනය ප්රාදේශීය සේවා සෞඛ්ය අධ්යක්ෂක කේ.ඒ්. කේදීස්වරන් මහතා මාධ්ය සාකච්ඡාවකට එක් වෙමින් පවස සිටයේ,
‘මේ වන විට යපනය සහ පේදුරුතුඩුව රෝහල වෙතට මෙම හදීසි උණ වෛරසය වැළඳී රොගීන් 44 දෙනෙකු වාර්ථා වී ඇති බවටත් ඉන් රෝගීන් 7 දෙනෙකු මේ වන විට මිය ගොස් ඇති බවටත්ය.
යාපනය පේදුරුතුඩුව, කරවෙඩ්ඩි සහ චාවකච්චේරි ප්රදේශයන්හි මෙම උණ වෛරසය වාර්ථා වී ඇති හෙයින් ඔිනෑම අයෙකුට උණ තත්වයක් ඇති වුවහෙත් ලඟම ඇති රෝහල වෙතට පැමිණ රුධීර සාම්ඵල වාර්ථාවක් ලබාගන්නා ලෙසටද කේ.ඒ්. කේදීස්වරන් මහතා පැවසීය.
මිය ගිය රෝගීන්ගේ සාම්ඵල කිහිපයක් කොළඹට යවා සිදුකරන ලද පරික්ෂණ වලදී දැනට හෙලි වී ඇත්තේ අදාල වෛරසයට මී උණට සමාන වෛරසයක් බැවින් ඒ් ඔස්සේ සෙසු රෝගීන්ට ප්රතිකාර කිරීම අරඹා ඇති අතරම මී උණ වෛරසය පැතිරීම වැලක්වීම සඳහා ග්රාමීය මට්ටමේ සිට විශේෂ වැඩපිළිවලක් ආරම්භ කොට ඇතැයිද ඒ මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසීය.
