Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Hasanka Wijemuni says that steps will be taken to ban the use of children under 12 years of age in advertisements from January 1.
He made this statement in Parliament.
The Deputy Minister said that all steps have been taken to enforce the gazette notification for this.
The Minister further stated that the previous governments hesitated to implement this decision for 7-8 years and the new government has decided to implement it from January next year.
The previous governments have been putting it off for 7-8 years. We took a decision last week that we will not put it off and that we will implement this from January 1.”

මෙම තීරණය පසුගිය රජයන් වසර 7-8ක් තිස්සේ ක්රියාත්මක කිරීමට පසුබට වූ බවත්, නව ආණ්ඩුව එය ලබන වසරේ ජනවාරි සිට බලාත්මක කිරීමට තීරණය කළ බවත් අමාත්යවරයා තවදුරටත් සඳහන් කළා.
පසුගිය රජයන් තුළින් අවුරුදු 7-8ක් තිස්සේ ඕක පස්සට දාදා හිටියා. අපි ගිය සතියේ තීරණයක් ගත්තා අපි ඒක පස්සට දාන්නේ නෑ අපි ජනවාරි 01 වැනිදා ඉඳලා මෙය බලාත්මක කරනවා කියන කාරණය.”
