Prison officials are preparing to use body scanners to prevent the illegal import of mobile phone accessories into the Boossa High Security Prison.
Despite repeated inspections by the Special Task Force (STF) at the Boossa Prison, contraband is still present, Prisons Department Spokesperson and Prisons Commissioner (Operations/Intelligence) Gamini Dissanayake told the Daily Morning newspaper.
“Therefore, we have planned to introduce body scanners into the high security prisons. We are awaiting permission from the relevant authorities in this regard. We should be able to use them in a week or two,” he said.
The comments came after mobile phone chargers and data cables were found at the Boossa High Security Prison last week.

“එබැවින් අධි ආරක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාර තුළට ශරීර ස්කෑනර් යන්ත්ර හඳුන්වාදීමට අප සැලසුම් කර තිබෙනවා. මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදාළ බලධාරීන්ගේ අවසරය බලාපොරොත්තුවෙන් සිටිනවා. සතියකින් හෝ දෙකකින් ඒවා භාවිතයට ගැනීමට අපට හැකි විය යුතුයි,” ඔහු සඳහන් කර තිබේ.
පසුගිය සතියේ බූස්ස අධි ආරක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාරය තුළ ජංගම දුරකථන චාජර් සහ ඩේටා කේබල් හමුවීමත් සමඟ මෙම අදහස් පළකිරීම සිදුව ඇත.
