President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that the transformational change that occurred with Buddhism helped the Sri Lankan people become a civilized nation.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed these views while participating in the National Poson Festival held at the historic Mihintale Shrine today (10) under the theme “Let the world be enlightened with the teachings of Buddhism”.
The President emphasized that the National Poson Festival cannot be celebrated while forgetting the visit of Arahant Mahinda to Sri Lanka and Mihintale, who led the Sri Lankan nation to a civilizational transformation.
Therefore, the President pointed out that it is the responsibility of a state to protect and preserve this land with such spiritual heritage for future generations.
The President stated that this responsibility can be fulfilled by citizens who have an organic relationship with the earth, not by people floating above it, and said that the program to re-establish the city of Anuradhapura has been initiated.
The beginning of our country becoming a center of Theravada Buddhist philosophy and tradition was marked with the arrival of Anubhutu Mahinda Thera to Sri Lanka, and that this wonderful event, which led to a spiritual awakening along with a social transformation, has succeeded in creating a more advanced structure in all aspects of our country, including cultural, social and political, which has gone beyond a mere religious meaning.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized that by re-establishing that society on the earth, the country will fulfill its ultimate responsibility of building a modern, civilized state with new ethical, social and environmental attitudes that the country needs.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the government is working to reconstruct the ancient heritage of Anuradhapura, which is home to Sri Lanka’s first city, first tank, first surgery site, and giant canal.
The President also said that the Indian Prime Minister has already expressed his willingness to carry out the reconstruction work with Indian assistance.

Any nation needs a strong foundation to rise. The Sri Lankan people have received such a strong foundation through the philosophy of Buddha. Strong citizens cannot be expected in a society where education has dried up. More than two decades ago, it was Buddhism that brought about a transformational change in education in this country. Buddhism did a great job in fulfilling the social mission of providing spiritual and knowledge to the people of this country by turning temples into Pirivenas. This led to the emergence of a civilized social mechanism. For that, the great monks who have been working in this country for 2500 years of history should receive the nation’s praise.
But by now, that social mechanism has collapsed. Some in the police have reached a point where they are protecting criminals. Some officers in the Immigration and Emigration Department have reached a point where they are issuing illegal passports. Airline passes have been issued to underworld leaders. Some in the Prisons Department have illegally released prisoners. Some officers in the Motor Vehicles Department have done illegal work. The citizen is not in a happy state of mind regarding these institutions. Therefore, to develop the citizen’s civic responsibility, civility must be brought in. Guidance can be obtained through Buddhist philosophy for that.
As a civilized nation, we are working to rebuild these state institutions. We need the support of the common citizen to carry out that task without giving up. We must end this decadent era and transform it into a victorious, physically and spiritually advanced standard of living.
The National Poson Festival could not be held under state sponsorship for two years, and the Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Dr. Walawahangunawewe Dhammarathana Thero, expressed his gratitude to the President for taking a direct decision in this regard and holding the National Poson Festival in Mihintale.
The welcome and explanation of the purpose were given by the Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Viharaya, Venerable Surukkulam Indrarathana Thero.
The Chief Incumbent of Mihinthala Raja Maha Viharaya, Venerable Dr. Walawahangunawewe Dhammarathana Thero, Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs Gamagedara Dissanayake, Deputy Minister Susil Ranasinghe, Members of Parliament Sena Nanayakkara, Thilina Tharuka Samarakoon, Bhagya Sri Herath, Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya and a large group of people participated in this event.

ශ්රී ලාංකේය ජනතාව ශිෂ්ට සම්පන්න ජාතියක් බවට පත් වීමට බුදු දහම සමඟ සිදුවූ පරිවර්තනීය වෙනස ඉවහල් වූ බව ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා අවධාරණය කළේය.
ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා මෙම අදහස් පළ කළේ, “අනුබුදු දහමින් ලොවම නිවේවා“ තේමාව යටතේ ඓතිහාසික මිහින්තලා පුද බිමේදී අද (10) පැවති ජාතික පොසොන් උත්සවයට එක් වෙමිනි.
ශ්රී ලාංකේය ජාතිය ශිෂ්ට සම්පන්න පරිවර්තනයකට ගෙන ගිය මිහිඳු මහරහතන් වහන්සේගේ ලංකාගමනය සහ මිහින්තලාව අමතක කර ජාතික පොසොන් උත්සවය සැමරිය නොහැකි බව ජනාධිපතිවරයා මෙහිදී අවධාරණය කළේය
එම නිසා මෙවැනි අධ්යාත්මික වටිනාකම් සහිත උරුමය ඇති භූමිය සුරක්ෂිත කොට මතු පරපුර වෙනුවෙන් රැක ගැනීම රාජ්යයක වගකීම බව ජනාධිපතිවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
එම වගකීම ඉටු කළ හැක්කේ මහ පොළොව සමඟ ඓන්ද්රීය සබඳතාවක් පවතින පුරවැසියන්ට මිස පොළොවට උඩින් පාවෙන මිනිසුන්ට නොවන බව සඳහන් කළ ජනාධිපතිවරයා අනුරාධපුර නගරය නැවත ප්රතිශ්ඨාපනය කිරීමේ වැඩසටහන ආරම්භ කර ඇති බවද කියා සිටියේය.
ථෙරවාද බෞද්ධ දර්ශනයේ හා සම්ප්රදායේ කේන්ද්රස්ථානයක් බවට අපේ රට පත් වීමේ ආරම්භය සනිටුහන් වූයේ අනුබුදු මිහිදු හිමියන්ගේ ලංකාගමනය සමඟ බවත්, සමාජ පරිවර්තනයක් සමඟ අධ්යාත්මික ප්රබෝධයක් ජනිත කිරීමට හේතු වූ එම අසිරිමත් සිදුවීම හුදු ආගමික අර්ථයෙන් ඔබ්බට ගිය අප රටෙහි සංස්කෘතික, සමාජයීය හා දේශපාලනික ආදී සෑම අංශයකම වඩා දියුණු සැකැස්මක් නිර්මාණය කිරීමට සමත් වී තිබෙන බවත් ජනාධිපතිවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
එම සමාජය නැවත ලක් පොළොව මත ප්රතිශ්ඨාපනය කරමින් රටට ඇවැසි ආචාරධාර්මික, සමාජයීය සහ පාරිසරික වශයෙන් නව ආකල්ප සහිත නූතන ශිෂ්ටසම්පන්න රාජ්යය ගොඩනැඟීමේ පරම වගකීම අත්නොහැර ඉටු කරන බවද ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා මෙහිදී අවධාරණය කළේය.
ශ්රී ලංකාවේ ප්රථම නගරය, ප්රථම වැව, පළමු සැත්කම කළ ස්ථානය, යෝධ ඇල වැනි උරුමයන් සහිත අනුරාධපුරය යළි පැරණි උරුමය ප්රතිනිර්මාණය කිරීමේ කාර්ය රජය සිදු කරමින් තිබෙන බවද ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.
එම ප්රතිනිර්මාණ කටයුතු ඉන්දියානු ආධාර යටතේ සිදු කිරීමට ඉන්දීය අගමැතිවරයා මේ වන විටත් කැමැත්ත පළ කර තිබෙන බවද ජනාධිපතිවරයා පැවසීය.
එහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා
ඕනෑම ජාතියකට නැගී සිටීමට ශක්තිමත් අත්තිවාරමක් අවශ්යයි. එවැනි ශක්තිමත් අත්තිවාරමක් ශ්රී ලාංකේය ජනතාවට බුද්ධ දර්ශනය මගින් ලැබී තිබෙනවා. අධ්යාපනය වියළුණු සමාජයක ශක්තිමත් පුරවැසියන් බලාපොරොත්තු වන්න බැහැ. වසර දෙදහකට අධික කාලයකට පෙර මේ රටට අධ්යාපනයේ පරිවර්තනීය වෙනසක් ඇති කළේ බුදු දහමයි. පන්සල් පිරිවෙන් බවට පත් කරමින් මේ රටේ ජනතාවට අධ්යාත්මික මෙන්ම දැනුම ලබාදීමේ සමාජ මෙහෙවර ඉටු කිරීමට බුදු දහම විශාල කාර්යයක් කළා. ශිෂ්ට සම්පන්න සමාජ යාන්ත්රණයක් ඇතිවීම එමඟින් සිදු වුණා. ඒ සඳහා වසර 2500ක ඉතිහාසයේ මේ රටේ වැඩ සිටී මහා යතිවරයාණන් වහන්සේලාට ජාතියේ ප්රණාමය හිමි විය යුතුයි.
නමුත් මේ වනවිට එම සමාජ යාන්ත්රණය බිඳවැටී තිබෙනවා. පොලිසියේ ඇතැමුන් අපරාධකරුවන් ආරක්ෂා කරන තත්ත්වයට පත්වෙලා. ආගමන විගමන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සමහර නිලධාරීන් නීති විරෝධී ගමන් බලපත්ර නිකුත් කරන තැනට පත්වෙලා. පතාල නායකයින්ට ගුවන්ගමන් බලපත්ර නිකුත් කර තිබෙනවා. බන්ධනාගාර දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ ඇතැමුන් නීති විරෝධී ලෙස හිරකරුවන්ට නිදහස ලබා දී තිබෙනවා. මෝටර් රථ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ ඇතැම් නිලධාරීන් නීති විරෝධී වැඩ කර තිබෙනවා. මේ ආයතන පිළිබඳ පුරවැසියා සිටින්නේ සතුටුදායක මානසික තත්ත්වයකින් නොවෙයි. එම නිසා පුරවැසියාගේ පුරවැසි වගකීම වර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා ශිෂ්ට සම්පන්නභාවය රැගෙන ආ යුතුයි. ඒ සඳහා බෞද්ධ දර්ශනය තුළින් මඟපෙන්වීමක් ලබා ගත හැකියි.
ශිෂ්ට සම්පන්න ජාතියක් වශයෙන් අප මේ රාජ්ය ආයතන නැවත ගොඩනැගීම සඳහා කටයුතු කරනවා. එම කාර්ය අත් නොහැර සිදු කිරීමට පොදු පුරවැසියාගේ සහයෝගය අවශ්යයි. මේ පරිහානික යුගය අවසන් කර ජයග්රාහී භෞතික සහ ආධ්යාත්මික දියුණු ජීවන තත්ත්වය වෙත පරිවර්තනය කළ යුතුයි.
වසර දෙකක කාලයක් ජාතික පොසොන් උත්සවය රාජ්ය අනුග්රහයෙන් පැවැත්වීමට නොහැකි වූ අතර ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් සෘජු තීරණයක් ගෙන ජාතික පොසොන් උත්සවය මිහින්තලයේදී පැවැත්වීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් මිහින්තලා රජමහා විහාරාධිපති ආචාර්ය පූජ්ය වලවාහැංගුණවැවේ ධම්මරතන හිමියන් විසින් මෙහිදී ජනාධිපතිවරයා වෙත ස්තුතිය පළ කරන ලදී.
පිළිගැනීම සහ අරමුණ පැහැදිලි කිරීම මිහින්තලේ විහාරාධිකාරී පූජ්ය සුරුක්කුලමේ ඉන්ද්රරතන හිමියන් විසින් සිදු කරන ලදී.
මිහින්තලා රජමහා විහාරාධිපති පූජ්ය ආචාර්ය වලවාහැංගුණවැවේ ධම්මරතන නාහිමියෝ, බුද්ධශාසන, ආගමික හා සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු අමාත්ය හිනිදුම සුනිල් සෙනෙවි, අමාත්ය වසන්ත සමරසිංහ, ආගමික හා සංස්කෘතික කටයුතු නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය ගමගෙදර දිසානායක, නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය සුසිල් රණසිංහ, පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රීවරුන් වන සේන නානායක්කාර, තිළිණ තාරුක සමරකෝන්, භාග්ය ශ්රී හේරත්, අනුරාධපුර දිස්ත්රික් ලේකම් රංජිත් විමලසූරිය යන මහත්වරු ඇතුළු විශාල පිරිසක් මෙම අවස්ථාවට එක්ව සිටියහ.
