The enlightened Mahinda Thero, led by the Venerable Itthiya, Uthiya, Sambhala, Bhaddasa Thero, the Sumana Samanera Thero and the Bhanduka Upasaka, arrived in Sri Lanka on a day like today with the message of the Dhamma.
History says that when Mahinda Thero met King Devanampiyatissa, the king and his party were engaged in deer hunting.
The beginning of the establishment of the Buddhist order in Sri Lanka was marked on a great day like today, when the Chullahaththi Padopama Sutta was preached to the king.
It is mentioned in the history of the order that after the Third Sanghayana held under the patronage of Emperor Dharmasoka in Dambadi, groups of Dharma missionaries were sent to nine countries.

The day after Arahant Mahinda Thero arrived in Sri Lanka, five hundred women including Anula Devi attained the fruit of Sovan after hearing the Vimanavattu, Petavattu and Sachcha Samyamba Dharma sermons preached in Anuradhapura.
The Sri Lankan people rose independently, not following any culture in the world, through the light of Buddhism received on the Poson Full Moon Poya Day like today.
මෙරට සම්බුදු දහමින් ඒකාලෝකවූ උතුම් පොසොන් පොහොය අදයි
අන්ධකාරයේ ගිලී සිටි ලක්වාසී ජනතාව බුදුන් වහන්සේ අනුදැන වදාළ ධර්ම මාර්ගයට යොමුකළ උතුම් පොසොන් පුන් පොහෝ දිනය අදයි.
මිහින්තලා උදාගිරෙන් ලක්දිවට පෑයූ පොසොන් සඳ අපේ ජන ජීවිතය, සමාජය හා සංස්කෘතිය නව වෙනසකට ලක්කළා.
අනුබුදු මිහිඳු මහරහතන් වහන්සේ ප්රමුඛ ඉත්ථිය, උත්ථිය, සම්භල, භද්දසාල යන ස්වාමීන්වහන්සේ ද සුමන සාමණේරයන් වහන්සේ සහ භණ්ඩුක උපාසක යන ධර්ම දූත පිරිස සදහම් පණිවුඩය රැගෙන අද වැනි දිනෙක ලක්දිවට පැමිණියා.
මිහිඳු මහරහතන් වහන්සේට දේවානම්පියතිස්ස රජතුමා හමුවන විට රජු ඇතුළු පිරිස මුව දඩයමේ නිරත වූ බව ඉතිහාසයේ සඳහන්.
රජතුමාට චුල්ලහත්ථී පදෝපම සූත්රය දේශනා කරමින් ලක්දිව බුදු සසුන පිහිටුවීමේ ආරම්භය සටහන් වුයේ ද අද වැනි උතුම් දිනකයි.
දඹදිව ධර්මාශෝක අධිරාජ්යයාගේ දායකත්වයෙන් පැවැත්වූ තුන්වන ධර්ම සංඝයානාවෙන් පසු රටවල් නවයකට ධර්ම දූත කණ්ඩායම් පිටත් කර හැරුණු බව ශාසන ඉතිහාසයේ සඳහන්.
එම ධර්ම දූත ව්යාපාරය ශ්රී ලංකාව තුළ වඩාත් සාර්ථක වුණා.
එවකට ලක්දිව පාලනය කළ දේවානම්පියතිස්ස රජතුමා ඇතුළු රට වැසියන් බුදු දහම වැළඳගත්තා.
බුදු දහම ව්යාප්ත වීමත් සමඟ මෙරට ආගමික, සමාජීය, සංස්කෘතික හා ආර්ථික යන ක්ෂේත්රවල පුනර්ජීවය සිදුවුණා.
මිහිඳු මහ රහතන් වහන්සේ ලක්දිවට වැඩම කිරීමෙන් පසු දින අනුරාධපුරයේ දී දේශනා කළ විමානවත්තු, පේතවත්ථු හා සච්ච සංයුක්ත ධර්ම දේශනාව අසා අනුලා දේවිය ඇතුළු පන්සියයක් කාන්තාවන් සෝවාන් ඵලයට පත්වුණා.
ලාංකික ජනතාව ලොව කිසිම සංස්කෘතියකට ගැති නොවී ස්වාධීන ලෙස නැගී සිටියේ අද වැනි පොසොන් පුර පසළොස්වක පොහෝ දිනයේ ලැබුණු බුදු දහමේ ආලෝකය ඔස්සේයි.
