The government said before the election that corrupt people would come under the guise of groups, but Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Foreign Employment Vijitha Herath says that not all independent group representatives who have been appointed are corrupt.
“Groups and individuals of the United National Party, Pohottuwa, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, former mayors and chairmen of those institutions who could not win the election this time contested the election as independent groups. There are those who contested and won. There are those who contested and lost the election. For example, former mayors of the Negombo Municipal Council, Dayan Lanza, Nimal Lanza and others, entered several independent groups. They thought they could come with a disguise and a mask and win. But they could not do that. In many places, former mayors, chairmen, and those who were here in this Pohottuwa did not vote when they came from the party, so the people came representing such groups. So we will not join with such people.
Question – Does that mean that you will not join with those who previously represented the council from a party other than yours?
“It varies from institution to institution. That’s what I said…”
Question – But if you have represented before, do you fall into the category of thieves that the Prime Minister mentioned…?
“Not everyone falls into that category”
Question – You didn’t say that before, did you?
“Well, you can’t explain all of that in a speech on this election platform. Now, when we take an institution, when we look at independent groups, there are many independent groups 1,2,3,4,5. They don’t all fall into the same category. There are those. We will not join such corrupt individuals.”
Question – What is that corrupt criterion? How does it come about?
“It differs from council to council. It can be said by looking at the people in the council. I gave an example earlier.”
Minister Vijitha Herath said this while joining the Derana 360 program.

“එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂයේ, පොහොට්ටුවේ, සමගි ජන බලවේගයේ කණ්ඩායම්, පුද්ගලයෝ ඒ ආයතනවල කලින් හිටපු නගරාධිපතිවරු, සභාපතිවරු මේ සැරේ ඡන්දෙ ඉල්ලලා දිනන්න බැරි කට්ටිය ස්වාධීන කණ්ඩායම් විදියට ඡන්දෙට ඉදිරිපත් වුණා. එහෙම ඡන්දෙට ඉදිරිපත් වෙලා දිනපු අයත් ඉන්නවා. ඡන්දෙට ඉදිරිපත් වෙලා පැරදිච්ච අයත් ඉන්නවා. මං උදාහරණයක් කිව්වොත් මීගමුව නගරසභාවේ හිටපු නගරාධිපති දයාන් ලන්සා, නිමල් ලන්සා ඇතුළු ඒ අය ස්වාධීන කණ්ඩායම් කිහිපයක්ම දැම්මා. ඒගොල්ලො හිතුවා වේශනිරූපණයක් සහිතව, වෙස් මූණක් දාගෙන ඇවිල්ලා දිනන්න පුළුවන් කියලා. නමුත් ඒක ඒගොල්ලන්ට බැරිවුණා. ගොඩක් තැන්වල හිටපු නගරාධිපතිවරු, සභාපතිවරු, මේ පොහොට්ටුවෙ අරහෙ මෙහෙ හිටපු අය පක්ෂයෙන් ආවාම ඡන්දෙ දෙන්නෙ නැති හින්දා ජනතාව එවැනි කණ්ඩායම් නියෝජනය කරමින් ආවා. ඉතින් අපි එවැනි අයත් එක්ක එකතු වෙන්නෙ නෑ.
ප්රශ්නය – ඒ කියන්නෙ මීට කලින් ඔබතුමන්ලාගෙ පක්ෂයේ නොවන වෙනත් පක්ෂයකින් සභාවල් නියෝජනය කරපු අය එක්ක එකතුවෙන්නේ නැද්ද ?
“ඒක ආයතනයෙන් ආයතනයට වෙනස්. ඒකයි මම කිව්වෙ…”
ප්රශ්නය – හැබැයි කලින් නියෝජනය කරලා තියෙනවා නම් අගමැතිතුමිය කියපු හොරු කැටගරි එකට වැටෙනවා …?
“හැමෝම ඒ කැටගරි එකට වැටෙන්නෙ නෑ”
ප්රශ්නය – එහෙම කිව්වෙ නෑ නේද කලින් ?
“මෙහෙමනෙ, ඔය ඔක්කෝම විස්තර කරන්න බෑනෙ මේ මැතිවරණ වේදිකාවේ කරන කතාවකදී. දැන් ඔය අපි ආයතනයක් ගත්තාම ස්වාධීන කණ්ඩායම් බැලුවාම ස්වාධීන කණ්ඩායම් 1,2,3,4,5 කියලා ගොඩක් ඉන්නවා. ඔක්කොම එකම කැටගරියට වැටෙන්නෙ නෑ. අරම අයත් ඉන්නවා. එවැනි දූෂිත පුද්ගලයින් සමග අපි එකතු වෙන්නෙ නෑ.”
ප්රශ්නය – ඒ දූෂිත නිර්නායකය මොකක්ද ? ඒක කොහොමද එන්නෙ ?
“ඒක සභාවෙන් සභාවට වෙනස්. ඒක සභාවේ ඉන්න පුද්ගලයෝ දිහා බලලා කියතහැකි. මම කලින් උදාහරණයක් කිව්වෙ.”
