12 people arrested in connection with the large-scale fertilizer fraud in Polonnaruwa
have been remanded for 14 days.
A team of officers from the Polonnaruwa Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau have raided an establishment selling agricultural fertilizers and agricultural materials in Siripura town in Siripura Police Division on a tip-off.
It was discovered that ammonia fertilizer was being fraudulently packaged as urea fertilizer and sold to farmers at higher prices.
Accordingly, 12 employees of the establishment, including a manager, were arrested for aiding and abetting this racket.
The suspects arrested are residents of Siripura, Bulathkohupitiya and Batticaloa areas, aged between 23 and 53, police said.
The police have seized 1565 bales of fertilizer that were brought for transfer at the time of the arrest of the above suspects, 05 lorries prepared for fertilizer transportation, and 13585 empty fertilizer bags from various institutions from the spot.
The arrested suspects were remanded until the 28th of this month after being produced before the Dehiattakandiya Magistrate’s Court.
The Polonnaruwa Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations

අලෙවි කරන ආයතනයක් සෝදිසි කිරීමකට ලක් කොට ඇත.
එහිදී ඇමෝ නියා පොහොර යූරියා පොහොර ලෙස කුඨ ලෙස ඇසුරුම් කර වැඩි මිලට ගොවියන් වෙත
වංචාසහගතව අලෙවි කරන බව අනාවරණය කරගෙන ඇත.
ඒ අනුව මෙම ජාවාරමට ආධාර අනුබල දීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් එම ආයතනයේ කලමණාකරුවෙකු ඇතුළු
සේවකයින් 12 දෙනෙකු අත්අඩංගුවට ගනු ලැබුවා.
අත්ඩංගුවට ගත් සැකකරුවන් අවුරුදු 23 ත් 53 අතර වයස් කාණ්ඩවල පසුවන සිරිපුර, බුලත්කොහුපිටිය
හා මඩකලපුව ප්රදේශවල පදිංචිකරුවන් බව පොලිසිය පැවසුවා.
ඉහත සැකකරුවන් අත්අඩංගුවට ගන්නා අවස්ථාවේ මාරු කිරීමට ගෙනවිත් තිබූ පොහොර මිටි 1565 ක්
පොහොර ප්රවාහනයට සූදානම් කර තිබූ ලොරි රථ 05 ක් හා විවිධ ආයතන වල පොහොර හිස් කවර
13585 ක් එම ස්ථානයේ තිබී පොලිසිය භාරයට ගෙන තිබෙනවා.
අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් සැකකරුවන් දෙහිඅත්තකණ්ඩිය මහේස්ත්රාත් අධිකරණය වෙත ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමෙන් පසු
මේ මස 28 දින දක්වා රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාර ගත කිරීමට නියම කරනු ලැබුවා.
පොළොන්නරුව කොට්ඨාස අපරාධ විමර්ශන කාර්යංශය වැඩිදුර විමර්ශන සිදු කරනු ලබනවා.
