Thousands of devotees from Sri Lanka and several countries have been arriving in Bodh Gaya since early this morning to mark the 2569th birth anniversary of the Buddha, it is reported.
Indian media reports that long queues of devotees carrying flowers were seen at Bodh Gaya, which is considered the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment.
This year’s Buddha Jayanti celebrations will be held from May 11 to 13.
To ensure the successful conduct of the three-day festival and the safety of visitors, tight security has been deployed across Bodh Gaya.
CCTV surveillance and strong police security have been set up to monitor every nook and cranny of the city.
The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is decorated with lights and flowers for the Vesak festival.
In addition to Sri Lanka, devotees in countries such as Thailand, Japan, Myanmar and Bhutan are also reported to be performing traditional pujas and meditating silently.

බුදුන් වහන්සේගේ 2569 වැනි ජන්ම සංවත්සරය නිමිත්තෙන් අද අලුයම සිට ශ්රී ලංකාව ඇතුළු රටවල් රැසකින් දහස් ගණනක් සැදැහැවතුන් බුද්ධගයාවට පැමිණෙමින් සිටින බව වාර්තා වේ.
බුදුන් වහන්සේ බුද්ධත්වයට පත් වූ ස්ථානය ලෙස සැළකෙන බුද්ධගයාව වෙත මල් රැගෙන පැමිණෙන සැදැහැවතුන්ගේ දිගු පෝලිම් දක්නට ලැබුණු බව ඉන්දීය මාධ්ය වාර්තා කරයි.
මෙම වසරේ බුද්ධ ජයන්ති සැමරුම මැයි 11 සිට 13 දක්වා පැවැත්වේ.
දින තුනක් පුරා පැවැත්වෙන මෙම උත්සවය සාර්ථකව පැවැත්වීම සහ අමුත්තන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව සහතික කිරීම සඳහා, බුද්ධගයාව පුරා දැඩි ආරක්ෂාවක් යොදවා ඇත.
නගරයේ සෑම අස්සක් මුල්ලක් නෑරම නිරීක්ෂණය කිරීම සඳහා CCTV නිරීක්ෂණ සහ ශක්තිමත් පොලිස් ආරක්ෂාවක් ස්ථාපිත කර ඇත.
යුනෙස්කෝ ලෝක උරුම අඩවියක් වන මහාබෝධි විහාරය වෙසක් උත්සවය වෙනුවෙන් විදුලි පහන් සහ මල්වලින් සරසා තිබේ.
