The Cabinet has approved a feasibility study to start a boat service covering several areas using the country’s coastline as well as the existing water flows in the interior of the country.
Accordingly, it is expected to facilitate tourism promotion and passenger transport by establishing a marine water transport service such as Puttalam-Fort, Fort-Galle, Galle-Matara, etc. and creating the necessary infrastructure for it. It is also stated that it is expected to promote the tourism industry by providing inland water transport facilities using potentials such as Hamilton Canal, Beira Lake, Diyawanna Oya and Madu Ganga.
It is stated that the Cabinet has received approval to implement the proposed project as a public-private partnership based on the results of this feasibility study.

ඒ අනුව පුත්තලම – කොටුව, කොටුව – ගාල්ල, ගාල්ල – මාතර ආදී වශයෙන් සමුද්ර ජල ප්රවාහන සේවාවක් ඇති කිරීම සහ ඒ සඳහා අවශ්ය යටිතල පහසුකම් ඇති කිරීම මඟින් සංචාරක ප්රවර්ධනය සහ මගී ප්රවාහනය සඳහා පහසුකම් සැලසීමට අපේක්ෂා කෙරෙන බවත්, හැමිල්ටන් ඇළ, බේරේ වැව, දියවන්නා ඔය හා මාදු ගඟ වැනි විභවයන් භාවිත කරමින් අභ්යන්තර ජල ප්රවාහන පහසුකම් සැපයීම මඟින් ද සංචාරක කර්මාන්තය ප්රවර්ධනය කිරීමට අපේක්ෂා කරන බවයි සඳහන් වෙන්නේ.
මෙම ශක්යතා අධ්යයනය සිදුකර එහි ප්රතිඵල මත පදනම්ව රාජ්ය-පෞද්ගලික ඒකාබද්ධ වැඩසටහනක් ලෙස යෝජිත ව්යාපෘතිය ක්රියාත්මක කිරීමට අමාත්ය මණ්ඩල අනුමැතිය ලැබී ඇති බවයි සඳහන් වේ
