Health officials say that with the ongoing rains, there is a high risk of dengue and chikungunya spreading.
The Secretary of the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association, Chamil Muthukuda, has expressed his views on this matter, stating that the mosquitoes that spread dengue are also spreading chikungunya.
He said that due to the long weekend and school holidays, many people have gone on picnics and due to this, the opportunity to clean their homes and the surrounding environment has been missed, and therefore, mosquito breeding sites have increased.
Pointing out that dengue and chikungunya are spread by the same mosquito, he further expressed his views and said that for this reason, the public is being made aware to prevent mosquito breeding by constantly cleaning the surrounding environment.

ඔහු පැවසුවේ දීර්ඝ සති අන්ත නිවාඩුව සහ පාසල් නිවාඩුව හේතුවෙන් බොහෝ පිරිස් විනෝද චාරිකා ගොස් ඇති බවත් මේ හේතුවෙන් නිවාස සහ අවට පරිසරය පිරිසිදු කර ගැනීමේ හැකියාව මග හැරී ගොස් ඇති නිසා මදුරුවන් බෝ වන ස්ථාන වැඩි වී ඇති බවත් ය.
ඩෙංගු සහ චිකන්ගුන්යා රෝග පතුරුවනු ලබන්නේ එකම මදුරුවෙකු විසින් බව පෙන්වා දුන් ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දක්වමින් පැවසුවේ මේ හේතුවෙන් අවට පරිසරය නිරන්තර පිරිසිදු කරගනිමින් මදුරුවන් බෝවිම වළක්වා ගන්නා ලෙස ජනතාව දැනුවත් කරන බවය.
