The Excise Department says that during the raids conducted during the New Year festivities, three liquor shops with excise licenses that were illegally selling liquor were sealed. Accordingly, the department stated that the law will be enforced to the fullest extent of the law against those liquor shops.
The Excise Department said that between April 3 and 17, 1,235 raids were conducted for excise offenses, and that 1,320 people were arrested and cases are being filed against them.
It further states that 658 raids were conducted for the possession, transportation and sale of illegally manufactured spirits and 224 raids were conducted for the operation of illegal liquor distilleries.

අලුත් අවුරුදු උත්සව සමයේ කළ වැටලීම්වලදී, නීති විරෝධීව මත්පැන් අළෙවි කළ, සුරාබදු බලපත්ර හිමි මත්පැන් අළෙවිසැල් තුනකට මුද්රා තැබූ බව සුරාබදු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පවසනවා.ඒ අනුව, එම මත්පැන් අළෙවිසැල්වලට එරෙහිව උපරිමයෙන් නීතිය ක්රියාත්මක කරන බවයි එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සඳහන් කළේ.
සුරාබදු දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව විසින් අප්රේල් 03 වැනිදා සිට 17 වැනිදා දක්වා වූ කාලය තුළ සුරාබදු වැරදි සම්බන්ධයෙන් වැටලීම් 1,235 ක් කර ඇති බවද, එම වැටලීම්වලදී පුද්ගලයන් 1,320 ක් අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන නඩු පැවරීමට කටයුතු කරමින් සිටින බවද එම දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව පවසා සිටියා.
එහිදී, නීති විරෝධී ලෙස නිෂ්පාදනය කළ ස්ප්රීතු සන්තකයේ තබා ගැනීම, ප්රවාහනය කිරීම සහ විකිණීමට සම්බන්ධ වැටලීම් 658 ක් සහ නීතිවිරෝධී මත්පැන් ස්කාගාර පවත්වාගෙන යෑම සම්බන්ධ වැටලීම් 224 ක් සිදු කර තිබෙන බවයි වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් වන්නේ.
