Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala states that underworld activities and drug trafficking are interrelated and it is no secret that certain politicians have contributed to it.
Although underworld activities cannot be completely controlled in a short period of time, Minister Ananda Wijepala states that the necessary environment will be created quickly for the public to live without fear and suspicion.
Minister Ananda Wijepala stated,
“Over a thousand illegal weapons have been seized in the last two months. Underworld gang members have been arrested. There have been recent reports of individuals who have illegally left the armed forces and are being used in underworld activities.
Around 1,700 individuals who have illegally left the military have been arrested so far. Several underworld activists who were hiding in foreign countries have been brought back to the country with the assistance of Interpol.
In addition, red warrants have been issued against several individuals we want. Underworld activities and sporadic shootings have been taking place in this country for a long time. We do not take those incidents lightly.
It is no secret that certain politicians have contributed to establishing these underworld activities and drug trafficking in this society for a long time. No. That system, which has been established in society for a long time, was used by some political groups to come to power.
This entire process cannot be completed in four or five months. But this is being controlled permanently. We need to create an environment where the people of the country can live without fear and suspicion.”
Minister Ananda Wijepala stated this while addressing the media after visiting the Malwathu Asgiri Mahanayake Theros and receiving their blessings.

පාතාල ක්රියාකාරම් හා මත්ද්රව්ය ජාවාරම එකිනෙකට සම්බන්ධ බවත් ඒ සඳහා ඇතැම් දේශපාලනඥයන්ගේ දායකත්වය ලැබී තිබෙන බව රහසක් නොවන බවද මහජන ආරක්ෂක අමාත්ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල සඳහන් කරයි.
කෙටි කාලයකදී පාතාල ක්රියාකාරකම් සම්පූර්ණයෙන් පාලනය කළ නොහැකි වුවත් රටේ මහජනතාවට බියෙන් හා සැකයෙන් තොරව ජීවත් වීමට අවශ්ය පසුබිම කඩිනමින් සකස් කරන බව අමාත්ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල සඳහන් කරයි.
අමාත්ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල සඳහන් කළේ,
“නීති විරෝධී අවි ආයුධ දහසකට අධික ප්රමාණයක් පසුගිය මාස දෙක තුළ නීතියේ රැහැනට ගත්තා. පාතල කල්ලි සාමාජිකයන් අත්අඩංගුවට ගත්තා. ත්රිවිධ හමුදාවේ සේවය කර නීත්යනුකූල නොවන අයුරින් ඉවත්ව ගිය පුද්ගලයන් පාතාල ක්රියාකාරකම් වලට යොදා ගැනීමේ සිදුවීම් පසුගිය කාලය තුළ වාර්තා වුණා.
නීත්යනුකූල නොවන ලෙස හමුදා සේවය හැරගිය 1.700ක පමණ පිරිසක් මේ වනවිට අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන තිබෙනවා. විදේශ රටවල සැඟවී සිටි පාතාල ක්රියාකාරීන් කිහිපදෙනකුම ජාත්යන්තර පොලිසියේ සහාය ඇතිව යළි රටට ගෙන්වා ගත්තා.
මීට අමතරව අපට අවශ්යව සිටින පුද්ගලයන් කිහිප දෙනෙකුටම එරෙහිව රතු වරෙන්තු නිකුත් කර තිබෙනවා. පාතාල ක්රියාකාරකම් හා තැන තැන සිදුවන වෙඩි තැබීම් දීර්ඝ කාලයක් තිස්සේ මේ රටේ සිදු වුණා. අපි ඒ සිදුවීම් ලඝුකොට සලකන්නේ නැහැ.
දීර්ඝ කාලයක් මේ පාතාල ක්රියාකාරම් හා මත්ද්රව්ය ජාවාරම ඒකාබද්ධව මේ සමාජය තුළ ස්ථාපිත කරන්න ඇතැම් දේශපාලනඥයන්ගේ දායකත්වය ලැබී තිබෙන බව රහසක් නොවේ. කාලයක් තිස්සේ සමාජයේ ස්ථාපිත වූ එම ක්රමය, සමහර දේශපාලන කණ්ඩායම් බලයට එන්න යොදා ගත්තා.
මේ සමස්තක්රියාදාමය මාස හතරක් පහක් තුළ අවසන් කරන්න බැහැ. නමුත් මේක ස්ථිර ලෙසම පාලනය කරනවා. රටේ මහජනතාවට බියෙන් හා සැකයෙන් තොරව ජීවත් වෙන්න අවශ්ය වටපිටාව සකස් කරන්න ඕන.”
