With the aim of increasing tourism attraction in Colombo city, plans are currently underway to open a night market along Marine Drive from the end of May, says Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam.
He made this statement at a press conference held on the morning of 09/04/2025.
He pointed out that efforts have been made to improve facilities at tourist hubs in order to reach the target tourist arrival of 3 million tourists this year.
“With this year’s goal, we want to develop special facilities in some tourist hubs. Especially with City Branding, we hope to increase tourist attractions in Colombo and create a situation where tourists can do more. We know that the capital city of Colombo is a city full of facilities for tourists. A large number of hotels have come up. A large number of facilities have come up. But there is a lack of activities or investments or festivals or other activities that tourists can engage in in Colombo. Along with this, we have already planned to open a Night Market in the Marine Drive area of Colombo. The plan for this is also in the final stages. We hope to implement this by the end of May.”

කොළඹ නගරය තුළ සංචාරක ආකර්ෂණය ඉහළ නැංවීමේ අරමුණින් මැයි මාසයේ අවසානයේ සිට Marine Drive ආශ්රිතව රාත්රී වෙළඳපොළක් විවෘත කිරීමට මේ වන විට සැලසුම් කර ඇති බව ශ්රී ලංකා සංචාරක සංවර්ධන අධිකාරිය සහ ශ්රී ලංකා සංචාරක ප්රවර්ධන කාර්යාංශයේ සභාපති බුද්ධික හේවාවසම් පවසයි.
2025/04/09 උදෑසන පැවැති ජනමාධ්ය හමුවක දී ඔහු මේ බව පවසා සිටියේය.
මෙම වසරේ ඉලක්ක ගත සංචාරක පැමිණීම වන සංචාරකයින් මිලියන 3ක සීමාවට ලගා වීම සඳහා සංචාරක කේන්ද්රස්ථාන වල පහසුකම් දියුණු කිරීමට කටයුතු කළ යතු බව ඔහු පෙන්වාදෙයි.
“මේ අවුරුද්දේ ඉලක්කය එක්ක අපිට අවශ්ය වෙනවා සමහර සංචාරක කේන්ද්රස්ථාන වල විශේෂ පහසුකම් දියුණු කරන්න. විශේෂයෙන්ම City Branding එක්ක අපි බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා කොළඹ නගරය තුළ සංචාරක ආකර්ෂණයන් වැඩි කිරීම සහ සංචාරකයන්ට කළ හැකි කටයුතු වැඩි කරන්න පුළුවන් තත්ත්වයක් ඇති කරන්න. අපි දන්නවා අගනගරය වන කොළඹ නගරය සංචාරකයන්ට අවශ්ය පහසුකම් වලින් සපිරි නගරයක්. විශාල හෝටල් ප්රමාණයක් ඇවිල්ලා තියනවා. විශාල පහසුකම් ප්රමාණයක් ඇවිල්ලා තියනවා. නමුත් සංචාරකයන්ට engage වෙන්න පුළුවන් activities එහෙම නැත්නම් invest එහෙම නැත්නම් උත්සව හෝ වෙනත් කටයුතු වල අඩුවක් කොළඹ නගරයේ තියනවා. මේකත් එක්ක අපි කොළඹ නගරය තුළ Marine Drive එක ආශ්රිතව Night Market එකක් ඒ කියන්නේ රාත්රී වෙළඳපොළක් විවෘත කරන්න දැනටමත් සැලසුම් කරලා තියනවා. මේ සඳහා වන සැලසුමත් අවසාන අදියරේ තියෙන්නේ. මැයි මාසේ අවසානේ ඉදලා අපි මේක ක්රියාත්මක කරන්න බලාපොරොත්තු වෙනවා.”
