Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has stated that the government has not yet taken any decision regarding the provision of police officers for the security of MPs.
The Minister points out that there has been no change in the policy followed by the government regarding the security of MPs.
Requests had been made to provide police security to MPs and the Speaker had also informed the Acting Inspector General of Police to look into the matter and take appropriate steps. Accordingly, some media reports stated that the government has decided to provide police security to all MPs representing Parliament.
Thus, although requests had been made in this regard by a group of opposition MPs, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has further stated that no final decision has been taken on the matter yet.

පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රීවරුන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව සඳහා පොලිස් නිලධාරීන් ලබාදීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් රජය මෙතෙක් කිසිදු තීරණයක් ගෙන නොමැති බව මහජන ආරක්ෂක අමාත්ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල මහතා ප්රකාශ කරයි.
මන්ත්රීවරුන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් රජය අනුගමනය කරන ප්රතිපත්තියේ කිසිදු වෙනසක් සිදුව නොමැති බවට අමාත්යවරයා පෙන්වා දෙයි.
පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රීවරුන්ට පොලිස් ආරක්ෂාව ලබාදෙන ලෙස ඉල්ලීම් ඉදිරිපත්ව තිබූ අතර ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් සොයාබලා සුදුසු පියවර ගන්නා ලෙස කථානායකවරයා විසින් ද වැඩබලන පොලිස්පතිවරයාට දැනුම් දී තිබූ අතර ඒ අනුව පාර්ලිමේන්තුව නියෝජනය කරන සියලු මන්ත්රීවරුන්ට පොලිස් ආරක්ෂාව ලබාදීමට රජය තීරණය කර ඇති බව ඇතැම් මාධ්ය වාර්තාවල දැක්වුණා.
මෙලෙස, විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්රීවරුන් පිරිසකගෙන් ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඉල්ලීම් ඉදිරිපත් වී තිබුණ ද ඒ පිළිබඳ මෙතෙක් අවසන් තීරණයක් ගෙන නොමැති බවට මහජන ආරක්ෂක අමාත්ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් ප්රකාශ කර ඇත.
