Although the policies presented under the “Rata Anurata” concept have promised to create a stable economy, the opposition leader has alleged that instead the country has been handed over to the International Monetary Fund and budgetary measures have been taken within the limits of the International Monetary Fund.
Speaking to the media today regarding the government budget for 2025, Sajith Premadasa said that according to the budget, a primary surplus of 2.5% should be maintained and primary expenditure should be limited to 13% of the GDP.
He stated that the 13% limit introduced in the Public Finance Management Act 2024 is in line with the policies of the International Monetary Fund and that maintaining a primary surplus of 2.5% is a direct IMF recommendation.
The Opposition Leader also pointed out that only a very limited amount of resources has been allocated for investment.
Criticizing the budget, the Opposition Leader said that it fails to provide solutions to debt-ridden small and medium-sized enterprises and does not present a way out of poverty.
He noted that this year’s budget does not support high economic growth through entrepreneurship and that promises related to the plantation, agriculture and fisheries sectors have not been fulfilled.
Sajith Premadasa also pointed out that despite his election platform announcement that a new debt restructuring agreement would be implemented, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is now walking directly down the IMF path.
He said that while it is essential to work within the framework of the International Monetary Fund, if he were in power he would adopt a people-centric approach and continue to push for amendments to the budget.

“රට අනුරට” සංකල්පය යටතේ ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇති ප්රතිපත්ති මගින් ස්ථාවර ආර්ථිකයක් ඇති කිරීමට ප්රතිඥා දී ඇති නමුත්, යථාර්ථයෙන් පෙන්නුම් කරන්නේ ඒ වෙනුවට අන්තර්ජාතික මූල්ය අරමුදලට රට භාරදී ඇති බවත්, අන්තර්ජාතික මූල්ය අරමුදලේ සීමාවන් තුළ අයවැය ක්රියාමාර්ග ගෙන ඇති බවත් යනුවෙන් විපක්ෂ නායකවරයා චෝදනා එල්ල කර තිබේ.
2025 සඳහා වන රජයේ අයවැය සම්බන්ධයෙන් අද ජනමාධ්ය හමුවේ අදහස් දක්වමින් සජිත් ප්රේමදාස කියාසිටියේ, අයවැයට අනුව 2.5%ක ප්රාථමික අතිරික්තයක් පවත්වාගත යුතු බව සහ ප්රාථමික වියදම් දළ දේශීය නිෂ්පාදිතයෙන් 13%කට සීමාකළ යුතුව ඇති බවයි.

ව්යවසායකත්වය තුළින් ඉහළ ආර්ථික වර්ධනයක් සඳහා මෙවර අයවැය සහාය නොදක්වන බවත්, වැවිලි, කෘෂිකර්ම සහ ධීවර ක්ෂේත්රයට අදාළ පොරොන්දු ඉටුකර නොමැති බවත් ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.
එමෙන්ම සජිත් ප්රේමදාස පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, නව ණය ප්රතිව්යුහගතකරණය කිරීමේ ගිවිසුමක් ක්රියාත්මක කරන බව මැතිවරණ වේදිකාවේ ප්රකාශ කළද, අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක ජනාධිපතිවරයා දැන් සෘජුවම IMF මාර්ගයේ ගමන් කරමින් සිටින බවයි.
