About 7,000 doctors in Sri Lanka have decided to leave the country and about 2,000 doctors are already working abroad. Another 5,000 doctors have obtained foreign passports, said Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association.
This was at a media briefing held in Colombo.
He said that if the government does not take steps to provide doctors with their rights through the 2025 budget policy, there will be a shortage of 7,000 doctors in hospitals across the country.
He also said that the Government Medical Officers Association has submitted a proposal for Budget 2025, aiming to secure free health services by extending the stay of doctors in the country.
Dr. Sugathadasa says that these proposals will be submitted to the President by the Government Medical Officers Association.
Meanwhile, a special salary structure based on qualifications, performance and market value should be introduced for all categories of doctors and the doctors’ allowance should be updated.
He further stated that all categories of doctors should be included in Circular 22/99, which provides transportation facilities to other executive officers in the public service, and that a mechanism should be established to resolve the practical problems faced by all categories of doctors in earning the additional duty allowance.
He also stated that we request the government to update the living allowance provided to postgraduate trained doctors during their overseas training, increase the monthly allowance of intern doctors, correct the discrepancies in the promotion system of doctors in all categories, facilitate the import of motor vehicles under duty-free licenses for professionals including doctors, and reintroduce the pension system for all public servants including doctors.

ලංකාවේ වෛද්යවරු 7,000ක පමණ පිරිසක් රට හැර යෑමට තීරණය කර ඇති අතර මේ වන විටත් වෛද්යවරු 2,000ක් පමණ රටහැර ගොස් විදෙස් රටවල සේවය කරති. තවත් වෛද්යවරු 5,000ක පිරිසක් විදෙස් ගමන් බලපත්ර සකස් කර ඇති බව රජයේ වෛද්ය නිලධාරීන්ගේ සංගමයේ ලේකම් වෛද්ය ප්රභාත් සුගතදාස ප්රකාශ කර තිබෙනවා.
ඒ, කොළඹ පැවැති මාධ්ය හමුවකදීයි.
එහිදී ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, 2025 අය-වැය ප්රතිපත්තිය මඟින් වෛද්යවරුන් ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම් ලබාදෙන්නට රජය පියවර නොගන්නේ නම් රට පුරා රෝහල්වල වෛද්යවරු 7,000ක පිරිසක් හිඟවන බවයි.
එමෙන්ම වෛද්යවරු රට තුළ රැඳී සිටීම දිරීමත් කිරීම හරහා නිදහස් සෞඛ්ය සේවාව සුරක්ෂිත කිරීම ඉලක්ක කරගනිමින් අය-වැය 2025 වෙනුවෙන් රජයේ වෛද්ය නිලධාරීන්ගේ සංගමය යෝජනාවලියක් ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇති බවද ඔහු සඳහන් කරනවා.
මෙම යෝජනා රජයේ වෛද්ය නිලධාරර්න්ගේ සංගමය විසින් ජනාධිපතිවරයාට ඉදිරිපත් කරන බව වෛද්ය සුගතදාස පවසනවා.
මේ අතර සියලු කාණ්ඩවල වෛද්යවරු වෙනුවෙන් සුදුසුකම් කාර්ය සාධනය සහ වෙළෙඳ පොළ වටිනාකම මත පදනම් වූ සුවිශේෂී වැටුප් ව්යුහයක් හඳුන්වා දීම කළ යුතු බවත් වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ දීමනාව යාවත්කාලීන කිරීම සිදුකරන ලෙස ඉල්ලා සිටිනවා.
සියලු කාණ්ඩවල වෛද්යවරු රාජ්ය සේවයේ අනෙකුත් විධායක නිලධාරීන්ට ප්රවාහන පහසුකම් හිමිකරදී ඇති 22/99 චක්රලේඛයට අන්තර් ග්රහණය කිරීම සිදුකළ යුතු බව ද සියලු කාණ්ඩවල වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ අතිරේක රාජකාරී දීමනාව උපයා ගැනීමේදී මුහුණ දෙන ප්රායෝගික ගැටලු නිරාකරණය කරන ක්රම වේදයක් ස්ථාපිත කරන ලෙසද අප ඉල්ලා සිටින බවද ඔහු තවදුරටත් සඳහන් කළා.
එමෙන්ම පශ්චාත් උපාධි පුහුණු වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ විදෙස් පුහුණුවේදී ලබාදෙන ජීවන වියදම් දීමනාව යාවත්කාලීන කිරීම, සීමාවාසික වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ මාසික දීමනාව ඉහළ නැංවීම, සියලු කාණ්ඩ වල වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ ශ්රේණි උසස්වීම් ක්රමවේදයේ විෂමතා නිවැරැදි කිරීම, වෛද්යවරු ඇතුළු වෘත්තිය වේදීන්ට තීරුබදු සහන සහිත බලල්පත්ර යටතේ, මෝටර් රථ ආනයනය කිරීම සඳහා පහසුකම් සැලසීම, වෛද්යවරුන් ඇතුළු සියලු රාජ්ය සේවකයන් සඳහා විශ්රාම වැටුප් ක්රමවේදය නැවැත හඳුන්වා දීමද සිදුකරන ලෙස අප රජයෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටින බවද ඔහු මෙහිදී ප්රකාශ කළා.
