Indian Consul General in Jaffna Sri Sai Murali visited Jaffna Hospital yesterday (28) to observe the condition of Indian fishermen who were injured in a naval firing incident in Sri Lanka.
India had alleged that the Sri Lankan Navy had shot and injured two Indian fishermen while trying to arrest a group of Indian fishermen who were fishing in Sri Lankan waters.
Thirteen Indian fishermen who had trespassed in Sri Lankan waters were arrested by the Navy and handed over to the Kankesanthurai Fisheries Inspectorate Office in Jaffna. Sources in the Fisheries Inspectorate Office said that two of them were injured.
The injured fishermen were admitted to the Jaffna Hospital for treatment, and the condition of the injured is not serious, said Jaffna Hospital Director Dr. T. Sathyamoorthy.
Jaffna District National People’s Power MPs also attended the inspection of the injured and inquired about their well-being.
After inspecting the injured, the National People’s Power MPs said that the shooting had been mistakenly carried out on the grounds that they were a group of illegal immigrants.
The Jaffna National People’s Power MPs said that the fishermen in question were daily wage earners and that a mistake had been made.
The Indian government had expressed its strong displeasure over the incident of the Sri Lankan Navy firing on the Indian fishermen.

මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාවේ මසුන් අල්ලමින් සිටි ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින් පිරිසක් අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමට යාමේදී ශ්රී ලංකා නාවික හමුදාව ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින් දෙදෙනෙකුට වෙඩි තබා තුවාල කර තිබු බව ඉන්දීයාව චෝදනා කොට තිබිණ.
මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව ආක්රමය කළ ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින් 13 දෙනෙකු නාවික හමුදාව විසින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන යාපනය කන්කසන්තුරය ධීවර පරීක්ෂක කාර්යාලය භාරදී තිබු අතර,ඉන් දෙදෙනකුට තුවාල සිදුව ඇති බව ධීවර පරීක්ෂක කාර්යාල ආරංචි මාර්ග පැවසූහ.
තුවාල ලැබූ ධීවරයින් ප්රතිකාර වෙනුවෙන් යාපනය රෝහලට ඇතුළත් කොට තිබු අතර,තුවාලකරුවන්ගේ තත්වය බරපතල නොවන බව යාපනය රෝහල් අධ්යක්ෂක වෛද්ය ටි.සත්යමූර්ති මහතා පැවසූවේය.
තුවාලකරුවන් නිරීක්ෂණයට යාපනය දිස්ත්රික් ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රීවරුන්ද එක්ව සිටි අතර,ඔවුන් තුවාලකරුවන්ගේ සුවදුක් විමසීය.
තුවාලකරුවන් නිරීක්ෂණයෙන් අනතුරුව ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ මන්ත්රීවරුන් පැවසූවේ නීති විරෝධි සංක්රමණිකයින් පිරිසක් යැයි සිතා වැරදීමකින් වෙඩි තැබීමක් සිදුව ඇති බවයි.
අදාළ ධීවරයින් දෛනික කුලීකරුවන් පිරිසක් බවත්,වැරදීමක් සිදුව ඇති බවත් ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ යාපනය මන්ත්රීවරුන් පැවසූහ.
ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින් වෙත මෙරට නාවික හමුදාව වෙඩි තැබීමේ සිදුවීම වෙනුවෙන් ඉන්දීය රජය සිය දැඩි අප්රසාදය පළ කොට තිබිණ.
