The Central Bank says that there has been further growth in manufacturing activity in December.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector recorded an index value of 57.2 in December 2024, according to a latest report released by the Central Bank.
All sub-indices except employment contributed to this growth. The new orders and production sub-indices continued to increase in December due to the increase in orders during the festive season, especially in the food and beverage manufacturing sector.
However, the new orders and production sub-indices in the textile and apparel manufacturing sector declined due to the decline in orders from major garment export destinations due to the long winter holidays. As a result, the decline in the employment of casual workers in the textile and apparel sector was the main reason for the decline in the overall employment sub-indices.
Meanwhile, the wholesale purchases sub-index continued to rise during the month, and the time it takes suppliers to fulfill an order remained high, the Central Bank report also indicates.

දෙසැම්බර් මාසයේදී නිෂ්පාදන කටයුතුවල තවදුරටත් වර්ධනයක් සිදුව ඇතැයි මහ බැංකුව පවසනවා.
මේ අනුව නිෂ්පාදන අංශයේ ශ්රී ලංකා ගැනුම් කළමනාකරුවන්ගේ දර්ශකය 2024 දෙසැම්බර් මාසයේදී 57.2ක දර්ශක අගයක් වාර්තා කර ඇතැයි මහ බැංකුව නිකුත් කළ නවතම වර්තාවක දැක්වේ.
සේවා නියුක්තිය හැර අනෙකුත් සියලුම උප දර්ශක මෙම වර්ධනය සඳහා දායක විය. උත්සව සමයේ විශේෂයෙන් ආහාරපාන නිෂ්පාදන අංශයේ ඇණවුම් වැඩිවීම හේතුවෙන් නව ඇණවුම් සහ නිෂ්පාදන උප දර්ශක දෙසැම්බර් මාසයේදී තවදුරටත් ඉහළ ගොස් ඇත.
කෙසේ වෙතත් ශීත ඍතුවේ දීර්ඝ නිවාඩු පැවතීම හේතුවෙන් ප්රධාන ඇඟලුම් අපනයන ගමනාන්තවලින් ලැබෙන ඇණවුම් පහත වැටීමෙන් රෙදිපිළි සහ ඇඟලුම් නිෂ්පාදන අංශයේ නව ඇණවුම් සහ නිෂ්පාදන උප දර්ශක පහළ ගියේය. මෙහි ප්රතිඵලයක් ලෙස රෙදිපිළි සහ ඇඟලුම් අංශයේ අනියම් ශ්රමිකයන්ගේ සේවය ලබාගැනීම අඩුවීම සමස්ත රැකියා උප දර්ශකයේ පහත වැටීමට ප්රධාන වශයෙන් හේතු විය.
