The government’s aim is to purchase the paddy harvest of this month’s season through Sathosa and the Paddy Marketing Board, and to produce and distribute rice, says Minister of Trade and Commerce Wasantha Samarasinghe.
The Minister said that the government will intervene to end the rice shortages that occur from time to time in the country and to control prices and provide a guaranteed price to the farmer.
The Minister made this statement to the media after an observation tour conducted to inspect the government paddy warehouses constructed in the Oya Maduwa area of Anuradhapura.
The Minister said that some rice mill owners are making extraordinary profits by taking advantage of serious irregularities in the market and that the government is identifying these irregularities and finding solutions to them.
The Minister said that nearly thirty percent of the country’s paddy production is purchased by large mill owners and the remaining products are purchased by small and medium-sized rice mill owners, adding that the government will also take steps to purchase paddy to minimize the irregularities in the market.
Furthermore, to minimize the existing rice shortage in the country, 86,000 metric tons of rice were imported into the country by the 31st, further expressing his views and saying that the free limit on rice import will be removed after the 10th of this month.

අමාත්යවරයා පැවසුවේ වරින්වර රට තුළ සිදුවන සහල් හිඟය අවසන් කිරීමට සහ මිල පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා රජය මැදිහත් වී ගොවියාට සහතික මිලක් ලබා දීමට කටයුතු කරන බවයි.
අනුරාධපුර ඔයා මඩුව ප්රදේශයේ ඉදිකර ඇති රජයේ වී ගබඩා පිළිබඳව සොයා ලැබීම සඳහා සිදුකළ නිරීක්ෂණ චාරිකාවෙන් අනතුරුව මාධ්ය වෙත අදහස් දක්වමින් අමාත්යවරයා මේ බව කියා සිටියේය.
අමාත්යවරයා එහිදී පැවසුවේ වෙළෙඳපොළ තුළ පවතින බරපතළ විශමතාවයන් ප්රයෝජනයට ගනිමින් ඇතැම් සහල් මෝල් හිමියන් අසාමාන්ය ලෙස ලාභ ලබමින් සිටින බවත් එම අසාමාන්යතා රජය විසින් හඳුනාගෙන ඊට පිළිතුරු සෙවීමට කටයුතු කරන බවත්ය.
රටේ වී නිෂ්පාදනයෙන් සියයට තිහකට ආසන්න ප්රමාණයක් මහ මෝල් හිමියන් මිලදී ගන්නා බවත් ඉතිරි නිෂ්පාදන මිලදී ගනු ලබන්නේ සුළු හා මධ්යම ප්රමාණයේ සහල් මෝල් හිමියන් බවත් පැවසූ අමාත්යවරයා වෙළෙඳපොළ තුළ පවතින අසාමාන්යතා අවම කිරීම සඳහා රජයද වී මිලදී ගැනීමට කටයුතු කරන බවද සඳහන් කළේය.
තවද රටේ පැවැති සහල් හිඟය අවම කිරීම සඳහා පසුගිය 31 වැනි දින වන විට සහල් මෙට්රික් ටොන් 86,000ක් මෙරටට ආනයනය කරමින් ගැටළුව විසඳූ බව පැවසු වසන්ත සමරසිංහ මහතා මෙම මස 10 වැනි දිනෙන් පසු සහල් ආනයනය කිරීමේ නිදහස් සීමාව ඉවත් කරන බව වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දක්වමින් පැවසීය.
