A bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation unit for children with cancer was opened at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital on 02) with the labor contribution of the Sri Lanka Air Force and the financial sponsorship of the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya.
This is also the first and only bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation unit built in a government hospital for children with cancer.
Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa and Basnayake Nilame of the Kataragama Devalaya Dishan Gunasekara were present at the opening ceremony at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital premises.
Due to the limited space available for children receiving residential treatment in the children’s wards of the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, the Basnayake Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, Dishan Gunasekara, came forward to construct a three-storey ward complex at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital in 2023 with the financial sponsorship of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya Fund as a tribute to the Kataragama God.
Due to the contribution of the Air Force in this project, the three-storey ward complex was built as a four-storey ward complex and was opened to the public in 2024.
The third and fourth floors of the four-storey building thus constructed will provide an opportunity for the survival of children suffering from cancer to no longer be just a hope, by establishing a new unit for stem cell and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
The Commander of the Air Force agreed to provide the Sri Lanka Air Force’s contribution for all maintenance activities of this unit.

පිළිකා රෝගි දරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් රජයේ රෝහලක් තුළ ඉදිකරනු ලැබු පළමු හා එකම ඇටමිදුළු හා රුධිර ජනන සෛල බද්ධකිරීමේ ඒකකය ද මෙය වේ.
සෞඛ්ය හා ජනමාධ්යය අමාත්ය වෛද්ය නලින්ද ජයතිස්ස, සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශයේ ලේකම් වෛද්ය අනිල් ජාසිංහ, ගුවන් හමුදාධිපති එයාර් මාර්ෂල් උදේනි රාජපක්ෂ හා කතරගම දේවාලයේ බස්නායක නිළමේ ඩිෂාන් ගුණසේකර මහරගම අපේක්ෂා රෝහල් පරිශ්රයේ දී විවෘත කිරීමේ අවස්ථාවට එක්ව තිබුණි.
මහරගම අපේක්ෂා රෝහලේ ළමා වාට්ටු තුළ නේවාසිකව ප්රතිකාර ලබාගන්නා ළමුන් සඳහා පවතින ඉඩ පහසුකම් අවම වීම හේතුවෙන් රුහුණු මහා කතරගම දේවාලයේ බස්නායක නිළමේ ඩිෂාන් ගුණසේකර විසින් කතරගම දෙවියන්ට පිං පිණිස රුහුණු මහා කතරගම දේවාල අරමුදලේ මුල්යමය අනුග්රාහකත්වයෙන් 2023 වසරේ දී මහරගම අපේක්ෂා රෝහලේ තෙමහල් වාට්ටු සංකිර්ණයක් ඉදිකිරීමට ඉදිරිපත් වුණි.
මෙම ව්යාපෘතිය සඳහා ගුවන් හමුදාවේ ශ්රම දායකත්වය ලබාදීම හේතුවෙන් තෙමහල් වාට්ටු සංකිර්ණය සිව්මහල් වාට්ටු සංකිර්ණයක් ලෙස ඉදිකර 2024 වසරේ දී ජනතා අයිතියට පත්කළේය.
එලෙස ඉදිකරනු ලැබු සිව්මහල් ගොඩනැගිල්ගේ තෙවන හා සිව්වන මහල් යොදාගනිමින් පිළිකා මාරයාට බිලිව දුක්විඳින දරුවන්ගේ ජිවීත්වීමේ අපේක්ෂාව තව දුරටත් අපේක්ෂාවක් පමණක් නොවීමට අවස්ථාව සලසන්නේ, ඇටම්දුළු හා රුධිර ජනන සෛල බද්ධකිරීමේ නව ඒකකය ස්ථාපිත කිරීමෙනි.
මෙම ඒකකයේ සියලු නඩත්තු කටයුතු සඳහා ශ්රී ලංකා ගුවන් හමුදාවේ දායකත්වය ලබාදිමට ගුවන් හමුදාධිපතිවරයා විසින් මෙහිදී එකඟත්වය පළ කරනු ලැබීය.
