The Cabinet has approved the immediate introduction of a new digital driving license to replace the current driving license.
The Cabinet has also decided to continue the current methodology until the digital driving license is issued.
It has been almost 15 years since the issuance of a driving license as a smart card began, and the Government Information Department has announced that the government will identify the suitability of issuing a digital driving license, which is currently used in many countries of the world, according to new technology, facilitating data exchange between relevant institutions.
Accordingly, this digital driving license is to be introduced soon, taking into account the proposals submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.

මේ වන විට සුහුරු කාඩ්පතක් ලෙස රියදුරු බලපත්රයක් නිකුත් කිරීම ආරම්භ කර වසර 15කට ආසන්න කාලයක් ගත වී ඇති අතර, අදාළ ආයතන අතර දත්ත හුවමාරුවකට පහසුකම් සලසමින් නව තාක්ෂණය අනුව ලෝකයේ රටවල් ගණනාවක දැනට භාවිත කරනු ලබන ඩිජිටල් රියදුරු බලපත්රයක් නිකුත් කිරීමේ යෝග්යතාව රජය විසින් හඳුනාගනු ඇතැයි ද රජයේ ප්රවෘත්ති දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව නිවේදය කරයි.
ඒ අනුව, ප්රවාහන, මහාමාර්ග, වරාය සහ සිවිල් ගුවන් සේවා අමාත්යතුමා ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලද යෝජනා සැලකිල්ලට ගෙන මෙම ඩිජිටල් රියදුර බලපත්රය ඉක්මනින් හඳුන්වා දීමට නියමිතය.
