Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe states that vehicles worth about US$ 200 million have been imported into the country so far.
Since the first half of 2020, when the economy began to collapse, the authorities have temporarily suspended and imposed restrictions on the import of many non-essential goods, including motor vehicles.
However, after the economy recovered, the government decided to re-allow the import of vehicles in three phases.
Accordingly, letters of credit worth about US$ 450 million have been opened for the import of vehicles into the country, Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe states.

මේ වනවිට අමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 200ක පමණ වටිනාකමකින් යුත් වාහන මෙරටට ආනයනය කර ඇති බව මහ බැංකු අධිපති ආචාර්ය නන්දලාල් වීරසිංහ සඳහන් කරයි.
ආර්ථිකය දරුණු කඩා වැටීමකට මුල පිරූ 2020 වසරේ මුල් භාගයේ සිට මෝටර් වාහන ඇතුළුව අත්යවශ්ය නොවන භාණ්ඩ රැසක් ආනයනය තාවකාලිකව අත්හිටුවීමට හා සීමා පැනවීමට බලධාරීන් කටයුතු කළේය.
කෙසේ වෙතත් ආර්ථිකය යළි යථා තත්ත්වයට පත්වීමෙන් පසුව අදියර තුනක් යටතේ වාහන ආනයනය කිරීමට යළි අවසර ලබාදීමට රජය තීරණය කළේය.
ඒ අනුව මෙරටට වාහන ආනයනය සඳහා අමෙරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 450ක පමණ ණයවර ලිපි මේ වනවිට විවෘත කර ඇති බව මහ බැංකු අධිපති ආචාර්ය නන්දලාල් වීරසිංහ සඳහන් කරයි.
