From this year, only cadets and foreign students will be able to enroll in the Kotelawala Medical Degree, says Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara.
Making a special statement in Parliament today (22), the Minister stated that a correction should be made to the clauses of an advertisement published regarding the recruitment of students for the 2025-2026 batch of the Faculty of Medicine of the Kotelawala Defence University.
Accordingly, only cadet officers and foreign students will be able to enroll in the Faculty of Medicine of the Kotelawala Defence College for the 2025-2026 academic year, Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara further stated.

This was in response to the previous system of granting medical degrees to local students only by joining the armed forces or the police as cadets and to foreign qualified students only on a fee-paying basis.
Accordingly, from the 2024 academic year, local applicants who had fulfilled the qualifications were also given the opportunity to enroll in the medical degree program on a fee-paying basis.
In addition to the Z score (Z, Score) followed by the University Grants Commission for enrolling students in other national universities in Sri Lanka, students were enrolled for the medical degree on a fee-paying basis, following the criteria prepared by the University Grants Commission for enrolling students in other national universities in Sri Lanka, along with several additional qualifications.
However, from this year, the current government has decided to allow only cadets and foreign students to enroll in the Kotelawala Medical Degree.

මේ වසරේ සිට කොතලාවල වෛද්ය උපාධිය සඳහා ඇතුළත් වීමට අවස්ථාව හිමි වන්නේ කැඩෙට් භටයන්ට සහ විදෙස් සිසුන්ට පමණක් බව ආරක්ෂක නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය අරුණ ජයසේකර මහතා පවසනවා.
අද (22) පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී විශේෂ ප්රකාශයක් සිදු කරමින් අමාත්යවරයා සඳහන් කළේ, කොතලාවල ආරක්ෂක විශ්ව විද්යාලයේ වෛද්ය පීඨයේ 2025- 2026 කණ්ඩායම සඳහා ශිෂ්යයින් බඳවා ගැනීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් පළ කර ඇති දැන්වීමක වගන්ති නිවැරදි කිරීමක් සිදු කළ යුතුව ඇති බවයි.
ඒ අනුව, 2025- 2026 අධ්යයන වර්ෂය සඳහා කොතලාවල ආරක්ෂක විද්යාලයේ වෛද්ය පීඨයට ඇතුළත් වීමේ අවස්ථාව කැඩෙට් නිලධාරීන්ට සහ විදෙස් සිසුන්ට පමණක් හිමි වන බව ආරක්ෂක නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය අරුණ ජයසේකර මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පවසා සිටියා.
ජෙනරාල් ශ්රීමත් ජෝන් කොතලාවල ආරක්ෂක විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ වෛද්ය විද්යා උපාධිය සඳහා ගෙවීමේ පදනම මත සිසුන් ඇතුළත් කර ගැනීමට පසුගිය රජය මඟින් කැබිනට් අනුමැතිය ලබා දී තිබුණා.
ඒ, දේශීය සිසුන් සඳහා ත්රිවිධ හමුදාවට හෝ පොලීසියට කැඩෙට් නිලධාරියෙකු ලෙස බැඳීමෙන් පමණක් සහ විදේශීය සුදුසුකම් ලත් සිසුන් සඳහා මුදල් ගෙවීමේ පදනම් මත පමණක් වෛද්ය උපාධිය ලබා දීමේ පෙර පැවති ක්රමවේදය වෙනස් කරමින්.
ඒ අනුව, 2024 අධ්යයන වර්ෂයේ සිට සුදුසුකම් සපුරා ඇති දේශීය අයදුම් කරුවන්ද මුදල් ගෙවීමේ පදනම මත වෛද්ය උපාධි පාඨමාලාව සඳහා ඇතුළත් වීමට අවස්ථාව හිමිවුණා.
ශ්රී ලංකාවේ අනෙකුත් ජාතික විශ්ව විද්යාලවල සිසුන් බඳවා ගැනීම සඳහා විශ්ව විද්යාල ප්රතිපාදන කොමිශන් සභාව විසින් අනුගමනය කරනු ලබන Z අගයට (Z, Score) අමතරව තවත් අතිරේක සුදුසුකම් කිහිපයක් ද සහිතව සකස් කරනු ලැබූ ඇති නිර්ණායක අනුගමනය කරමින්, ගෙවීමේ පදනම මත එලෙස වෛද්ය උපාධිය සඳහා සිසුන් බඳවා ගෙන තිබුණා.
කෙසේවෙතත්, මේ වසරේ සිට කැඩෙට් භටයන්ට සහ විදෙස් සිසුන්ට පමණක් කොතලාවල වෛද්ය උපාධිය සඳහා ඇතුළත් වීමට අවස්ථාව ලබා දීමට වත්මන් රජය තීරණය කර තිබෙනවා.
