A bail application was submitted to the Colombo High Court yesterday (15) on behalf of former North Central Provincial Council Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith Samarakoon and Shanthi Chandrasena, wife of former Minister S.M. Chandrasena who served as his private secretary.
This bail application was submitted to the Colombo High Court subject to the appeal filed by the defendants at the Court of Appeal.
President’s Counsel Ali Sabry submitted the bail application through a motion. High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi, who took up the bail application, ordered the defense to present its case on June 16.
A bribery case was filed on the charge of illegally receiving and abetting the fuel allowance of Rs. 26,80,528.10 for the years 2012-2014, when the Chief Minister was legally entitled to the fuel allowance, and receiving it.
Former North Central Chief Minister S. M. Ranjith Samarakoon and Shanthi Chandrasena, the wife of former Minister S. M. Chandrasena, who served as his private secretary, are the defendants in this case.
After a lengthy trial, High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi sentenced the defendants to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 200,000 each.
K., a resident of Kekirawa Road, Galenbindunuwewa, This case was filed following a complaint submitted to the Bribery Commission by the Anti-Corruption Commission in 2015 by a person named Nimal Wijethilaka, in accordance with his citizenship rights.

විත්තිකරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් අභියාචනාධිකරණයට ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇති අභියාචනයට යටත්ව කොළඹ මහාධිකරණයට මෙම ඇප ඉල්ලීම ඉදිරිපත් විය.
ජනාධිපති නීතිඥ අලි සබ්රි මහතා මෝසමක් මාර්ගයෙන් ඇප ඉල්ලීම ඉදිරිපත් කළේය. ඇප අයැදුම්පත විභාගයට ගත් මහාධිකරණ විනිසුරු ආදිත්ය පටබැඳි මහතා ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ලබන ජූනි 16දා කරුණු දක්වන ලෙස විත්තියට නියම කළේය.
මහ ඇමැතිවරයාට නීත්යනුකූලව හිමිවන ඉන්ධන දීමනාව වැටුප සමඟ ලබාදී තිබියදී ඉන්ධන දීමනාව ලෙස රුපියල් 26,80,528.10ක මුදලක් 2012- 2014 වසර දෙක සඳහා අයථා ලෙස ලබාගැනීම හා එයට අනුබල දීමේ චෝදනාව යටතේ අල්ලස් නඩුව ඉදිරිපත් විය.
උතුරු මැද හිටපු මහ ඇමැති එස්. එම්. රංජිත් සමරකෝන් සහ ඔහුගේ පෞද්ගලික ලේකම්වරිය ලෙස කටයුතු කළ හිටපු ඇමැති එස්. එම්. චන්ද්රසේනගේ බිරිය වන ශාන්ති චන්ද්රසේන යන මෙම නඩුවේ විත්තිකරුවන් වේ.
දීර්ඝ නඩු විභාගයකින් පසු මහාධිකරණ විනිසුරු ආදිත්ය පටබැඳිගේ මහතා විත්තිකරුවන්ට බරපතළ වැඩ සහිතව වසර 16ක සිරදඬුවමක් හා අමතරව රුපියල් ලක්ෂ 2 බැගින් දඩ නියම කෙරිණි.
ගලෙන්බිඳුණුවැව, කැකිරාව පාරේ පදිංචි කේ. නිමල් විජේතිලක නම් තැනැත්තා සිය පුරවැසි හිමිකම අනුව 2015 වසරේ දී දූෂණ මර්දන කමිටුව මඟින් අල්ලස් කොමිසමට ඉදිරිපත් කළ පැමිණිල්ලක් අනුව මෙම නඩුව ගොනු කිරීම සිදු විය.
