The Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali yesterday (5) that steps are being taken to arrest and produce several former ministers in connection with the incident where they allegedly caused a loss of six and nine million US dollars (6.09) to the government by instructing to open suspended letters of credit relating to a stock of substandard organic fertilizer imported into the country from a Chinese company four years ago (2021).
When the case related to the incident was recalled before the court yesterday, the investigating officers informed the court of this while submitting a further report.
The investigating officers also informed the court that information has been revealed that the suspect former secretary, who is currently in remand custody in connection with this incident, had issued letters of credit to import the fertilizer after learning that it was not suitable for use in the country.
The investigating officers told the court that the investigations revealed that these officials had been playing with the money of innocent people and that some people who claim to be educated were using their education to engage in such frauds.
The investigating officers also informed the court that investigations are underway to arrest several former ministers in connection with this incident.
The investigating officers also requested the court to further remand Mahesh Gammanpila, a former Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, who was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in remand custody, as granting bail could hinder the investigations.
However, Mahesh Gammanpila was granted bail yesterday, but was remanded again due to his inability to meet the bail conditions.

එම සිද්ධියට අදාළ නඩුව ඊයේ අධිකරණය හමුවේ නැවත කැඳවූ අවස්ථාවේදී වැඩිදුර වාර්තාවක් ඉදිර්පත් කරමින් විමර්ශන නිලධාරීර්න් ඒ බව අධිකරණයට දැනුම් දුන්නේය.
මෙම සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් මේ වන විට රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාරගත කර සිටින සැකකාර හිටපු ලේකම්වරයා එම පොහොර මෙරට භාවිතයට සුදුසු නොවන බව දැනදැනම එය ආනයනය කිරීම සඳහා ණයවර ලිපි නිකුත් කර ඇති බවට තොරතුරු අනාවරණය වන බවද විමර්ශන නිලධාරීන් අධිකරණයට දැන්වීය.
මෙම නිලධාරීන් අහිංසක ජනතාවගේ මුදල් සමඟ සෙල්ලම් කර තිබෙන බවක් විමර්ශනවලදී පෙනීයන බවද, උගත් යැයි කියාගන්නා ඇතැම් පුද්ගලයන් එම උගත්කම් භාවිතයට ගනිමින් මෙවැනි වංචාවල නිරත වන බවද විමර්ශන නිලධාහු අධිකරණය හමුවේ පැවසූහ.
මෙම සිද්ධියට අදාළව හිටපු අමාත්යවරුන් කීපදෙනෙකු අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම සඳහා විමර්ශන කරමින් සිටින බවද විමර්ශන නිලධාහු අධිකරණයට දන්වා සිටියහ.
සිද්ධියට අදාළව අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන මේ වන විට රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාර ගත කර සිටින කෘෂිකර්ම අමාත්යාංශයේ හිටපු අතිරේක ලේකම්වරයකු වන මහේෂ් ගම්මන්පිල නමැත්තාට ඇප නියම කළහොත් විමර්ශනවලට බාධාවක් සිදුවිය හැකි බැවින් ඔහු තවදුරටත් රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාරගත කරන ලෙසද විමර්ශන නිලධාහු අධිකරණයෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියහ.
කෙසේවෙතත් මහේෂ් ගම්මන්පිලට ඊයේ ඇප ලැබුණු නමුත්, ඇප කොන්දේසි සපුරාලීමට නොහැකිවීම නිසා ඔහුව යළි රිමාන්ඩ් බන්ධනාගාරගත කෙරිණි
