Greeting tens of thousands of people, Pope Francis gave his Easter Sunday blessing after the Easter Mass in St. Peter’s Square today (20).
The 88-year-old Pope had thousands of people gathered there wishing him a long life as he blessed the people.
Foreign media reported that the Pope did not preside over the Easter service at the Vatican because he had been advised to rest on the advice of doctors.
However, he appeared to bless the city and the world after the Easter Mass.
In his Easter message, read aloud by an aide as the pope watched from the main balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, the pope repeatedly stressed his call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Before being hospitalized after a bout of pneumonia, the pope had also described the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory as “very serious and shameful.”
He was critical of Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Pope Francis held a brief meeting at the Vatican with US Vice President J.D. Vance, who was visiting Italy over the weekend.
The Vatican said they exchanged Easter greetings during the brief meeting, which lasted a few minutes.

විදෙස් මාධ්ය සඳහන් කළේ වෛද්යවරුන්ගේ නිර්දේශය මත පාප්වහන්සේට විවේකීව සිටින ලෙසට දන්වා ඇති බැවින්, වතිකානුවේ පාස්කු දේව මෙහෙයේ මුලසුන උන්වහන්සේ විසින් නොදැරූ බවයි.
නමුදු උන්වහන්සේ පාස්කු පූජාවෙන් අනතුරුව නගරයට සහ ලෝකයට ආශිර්වාද එක්කිරීම සඳහා පෙනී සිට තිබුණා.
ශාන්ත පීතර බැසිලිකාවේ ප්රධාන බැල්කනියේ සිට පාප් වහන්සේ බලා සිටියදී සහායකයෙකු විසින් ශබ්ද නඟා කියවන ලද පාස්කු පණිවිඩයෙන්, පාප්වහන්සේ නැවත නැවතත් අවධාරණය කර තිබුණේ ගාසා තීරයේ සටන් විරාමයක් සඳහා වන සිය ඉල්ලීමයි.
නියුමෝනියා තත්ත්වයෙන් දැඩි ලෙස රෝගාතුරව, රෝහල්ගතවීමට පෙරාතුව පාප්වහන්සේ ඉකුත් ජනවාරි මාසයේදී ද පලස්තීන ප්රදේශයේ මානුෂීය තත්ත්වය “ඉතා බරපතල හා ලැජ්ජා සහගත” ලෙස හුවා දක්වා තිබුණා.
ඒ, ගාසා තීරයේ ඊශ්රායලයේ හමුදා මෙහෙයුම පිළිබඳව විවේචනය කරමින්.
මේ අතර ෆ්රැන්සිස් පාප් වහන්සේ සති අන්තයේ ඉතාලියේ සංචාරයක නිරත වූ එක්සත් ජනපද උප ජනාධිපති ජේ.ඩී. වැන්ස් සමඟ වතිකානුවේදී කෙටි සාකච්ඡාවක නිරතව තිබුණා.
