After the daily food price was increased to Rs. 2,000, it is reported that MPs have reduced their consumption of food at the Parliament canteen to some extent.
Several senior MPs who spoke to us in this regard told us that they have not been eating at the Parliament canteen for some time due to various reasons.
It is also reported that some MPs only drink tea or porridge at the Parliament canteen.
It is said that many MPs, especially those in Colombo, bring food from their homes in the morning and go home for lunch.
The daily meal for an MP at the Parliament canteen was initially Rs. 450.00. (Breakfast Rs. 100.00, lunch Rs. 300.00 and tea and snacks Rs. 50.00)
After the new government came to power, the amount was increased to Rs. 2000. (Breakfast Rs. 600.00, lunch Rs. 1,200.00 and tea and snacks Rs. 200.00)
Although the food bill of the Members of Parliament has been increased, the Dining Room Division of the Parliament says that it only covers the cost of the ingredients.
Sources in the same division stated that since the service cost is not included in it, there is still a loss on the meals served to the Members of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne recently instructed the officials to prevent food wastage in Parliament as much as possible.
After inspecting several buildings including the kitchen of the Parliament, the Speaker gave the following instructions.
It has been observed for some time that there is significant food waste in the Parliament kitchen.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of Parliament has decided to register new suppliers for the purchase of food items including Kitul Jhakuru Kitul Pani, sweets, fruits and vegetables for the Parliament.
In the year 2023, an amount of Rs. 230,267,800.97 was spent on purchasing food and beverages for the Parliament.
The amount spent in that year on purchasing drinking water bottles was Rs. 2,573,250.
The Department of Food Control and Housekeeping of the Parliament provided dining facilities to 91 percent of the Members of Parliament and 3,71,192 guests and staff of the Members of Parliament in the year 2023, according to the performance report of the Parliament of Sri Lanka for that year.

දෛනික ආහාර මිල රුපියල් දෙදහසක් දක්වා වැඩි කිරීමෙන් පසු මන්ත්රීවරුන් පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ භෝජනාගාරයෙන් ආහාර ගැනීම යම් මට්ටමකට අඩු වී ඇතැයි වාර්තාවේ.
මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් අදහස් දැක්වූ ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ මන්ත්රීවරුන් කිහිප දෙනෙකු අප සමග පැවසුවේ, විවිධ හේතු මත පාර්ලිමේන්තු භෝජනාගාරයෙන් තමන් කාලයක සිට ආහාර නොගන්නා බවයි.
එමෙන්ම සමහර මන්ත්රීවරුන් පාර්ලිමේන්තු භෝජනාගාරයෙන් තේ එකක් හෝ කැඳ එකක් පමණක් පානය කරන බවයි වාර්තා වන්නේ.
විශේෂයෙන් කොළඹ සිටින මන්ත්රීවරු බොහෝ දෙනකු උදෑසන නිවෙස් වලින් ආහාර ගෙන පැමිණෙන අතර දවල් ආහාරය සඳහා නිවෙස්වලට යන බව පැවසේ.
පාර්ලිමේන්තු ආපන ශාලාවේ මන්ත්රීවරයකුගේ දිනක ආහාර වේල මුලින් පැවතියේ රුපියල් 450.00ක් ලෙසය. (උදෑසන ආහාර රු.100.00, දිවා ආහාර රු.300.00 හා තේ පානය සමග කෙටි කෑම රු.50.00)
නව රජය බලයට පත්වීමෙන් පසු එම මුදල රුපියල් 2000 ක් දක්වා වැඩි කෙරිණි. ( උදෑසන ආහාර රු.600.00, දිවා ආහාර රු.1,200.00 හා තේ පානය සමග කෙටි කෑම රු.200.00)
පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ මන්ත්රීවරුන්ගේ ආහාර බිල වැඩි කළද ඉන් ආවරණය කෙරෙන්නේ ඒ අමුද්රව්ය සඳහා යන වියදම පමණක් බව පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ භෝජනාගාර අංශය පවසයි.
සේවා පිරිවැය ඊට ඇතුළත් නොවෙන හෙයින් මන්ත්රීවරුන්ට දෙන කෑම වේලෙන් තවමත් පාඩුවක් ඇති බව එම අංශ ආරංචි මාර්ග සඳහන් කළේය.
මේ අතර පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ ආහාර නාස්තියහැකි උපරිමයෙන් වළක්වන ලෙස කතානායක වෛද්ය ජගත් වික්රමරත්න මහතා නිලධාරීන්ට පසුගියදා උපදෙස් දුන්නේය.
පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ මුළුතැන්ගේ ඇතුළු ගොඩනැගිලි කීපයක් පරීක්ෂා කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව කතානායකවරයා මෙසේ උපදෙස්දී ඇත.
පාර්ලිමේන්තු මුළුතැන්ගේ යම් සැලකිය යුතු ආහාර නාස්තියක් සිදුවන බව කාලයක සිටම පෙනී ගොස් ඇති කාරණයකි.
මේ අතර පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට කිතුල් හකුරු කිතුල්පැනි රස කැවිලි පලතුරු එළවළු ඇතුළු ආහාර ද්රව්ය මිලදී ගැනීම සඳහා නව සැපයුම්කරුවන් ලියාපදිංචි කිරීමට පාර්ලිමේන්තු මහ ලේකම්වරිය තීරණය කර ඇත.
පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ආහාරපාන මිලදී ගැනීම සඳහා 2023 වර්ෂයේදී රුපියල් විසිතුන් කෝටි දෙලක්ෂ හැටහත්දහස් අටසීයයි ශත අනූහතක මුදලක් (230,267,800.97) වැය කර තිබුණි.
පානීය ජල බෝතල් මිලදී ගැනීම සඳහා එම වර්ෂයේ දී වැය කෙරුණු මුදල රුපියල් විසිපන්ලක්ෂ හැත්තෑතුන් දහස් විසිපහකි.
පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ ආහාර පාලන හා ගෘහ පාලන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව 2023 වර්ෂයේදී පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රීවරුන්ගෙන් සියයට 91කට සහ මන්ත්රිවරුන්ගේ අමුත්තන්ට හා කාර්යමණ්ඩලයේ 3,71,192 දෙනකුට භෝජනාගාර පහසුකම් සපයා තිබු බව ශ්රී ලංකා පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ එම වර්ෂයට අදාළ කාර්යසාධන වාර්තාවේ සඳහන්වේ.
