Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said it is too late to talk about the Batalanda Commission report, and the government will take legal action based on the report, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said today.
He told reporters that the government had tabled the report in Parliament as promised and planned to hold a two-day debate on April 10 and May.
“The government has decided to appoint a committee on this matter. We will also forward the report to the Attorney General’s Department,” he said.
The Minister noted that the United National Party and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa’s Samagi Jana Balawegaya group argued against the debate, and the government had taken steps to allocate a day for the debate.
“We are holding the debate for the country’s democracy and justice. The people should know the truth,” he said.
The minister said that the person who knows the Batalanda incident from A to Z is former President Wickremesinghe, and that he did not talk about it until it was raised in a recent interview with Al Jazeera.
“Not today. Ranil could have talked about it for the past 35 years. He did not say anything until Al Jazeera talked about it. Ranil is too late now,” he said.

පොරොන්දු වූ පරිදි රජය වාර්තාව පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ සභාගත කළ බවත්, අප්රේල් 10 සහ මැයි මාසවල දින දෙකක විවාදයක් පැවැත්වීමට සැලසුම් කර ඇති බවත් ඔහු වාර්තාකරුවන්ට පැවසීය.
“මේ කාරණය සම්බන්ධයෙන් කමිටුවක් පත්කිරීමට රජය තීරණය කර තිබෙනවා. අපි වාර්තාව නීතිපති දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට ද යොමුකරනවා,” ඔහු පැවැසීය.
එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂය සහ විපක්ෂ නායක සජිත් ප්රේමදාසගේ සමගි ජන බලවේග කණ්ඩායම විවාදයට එරෙහිව තර්ක කළ බවත්, ආණ්ඩුව විවාදය සඳහා දිනයක් වෙන්කිරීමට කටයුතු කළ බවත් අමාත්යවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.
“රටේ ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදය සහ යුක්තිය සඳහා අපි විවාදය පවත්වනවා. ජනතාව සත්යය දැනගත යුතුයි,” ඔහු පැවැසීය.
බටලන්ද සිද්ධිය පිළිබඳව A සිට Z දක්වා දන්නා පුද්ගලයා හිටපු ජනාධිපති වික්රමසිංහ බවත්, මෑතකදී අල් ජසීරා නාලිකාවක් සමඟ පැවති සම්මුඛ සාකච්ඡාවකදී එය මතුකරන තුරු ඔහු ඒ ගැන කතා නොකළ බවත් අමාත්යවරයා ප්රකාශ කළේය.
“අද නෙවෙයි. රනිල්ට පහුගිය අවුරුදු 35 පුරාම ඒ ගැන කතා කරන්න තිබුණා. අල් ජසීරා ඒ ගැන කතා කරනකම් ඔහු කිසිවක් කිව්වේ නැහැ. රනිල් දැන් ප්රමාද වැඩියි,” ඔහු පැවසීය
