The Attorney General has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department not to arrest the 06 suspects including the OIC of the Colombo Crimes Division.
This is until the conclusion of the preliminary investigations based on the agreement reached at the Court of Appeal.
Accordingly, the Attorney General has instructed that their statements be recorded after they appear at the Criminal Investigation Department.
However, the Matara Magistrate’s Court recently issued an order to arrest the suspended IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon and 06 other suspects as suspects related to a shooting incident in the Weligama area.
The statement issued by the Police Media Division is as follows:

කොළඹ අපරාධ කොට්ඨාසයේ ස්ථානාධිපති ඇතුළු සැකකරුවන් 06 දෙනා අත්අඩංගුවට නොගන්නා ලෙසට නීතිපතිවරයා විසින් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට උපදෙස් ලබාදී ඇත.
ඒ අභියාචනාධිකරණයේ දී ඇතිකර ගත් එකඟතාව මත මූලික විමර්ශන අවසන් වන තෙක් ය.
ඒ අනුව අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ පෙනී සිටීමෙන් පසු ඔවුන්ගේ ප්රකාශ සටහන් කර ගන්නා ලෙසට නීතිපතිවරයා උපදෙස් දී තිබෙනවා.
කෙසේ වෙතත්, වැලිගම ප්රදේශයේදී සිදුවු වෙඩි තැබීමකට අදාළ සැකකරුවන් වශයෙන් ධුරයේ රාජකාරී අත්හිටුවන ලද පොලිස්පති දේශබන්දු තෙන්නකෝන් සහ තවත් සැකකරුවන් 06දෙනෙකු අත්අඩංගුවට ගන්නා ලෙසට මාතර මහේස්ත්රාත් අධිකරණය පසුගියදා නියෝගයක් නිකුත් කළේ ය.
