Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha and Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe and members of the Food Policy and Security Committee met for the fourth time at the Parliament Complex today (03) to take policy decisions related to ensuring food security.
There was a lengthy discussion on the provision of essential food items to the people at subsidized prices without any shortage during the upcoming New Year period and other measures including maintaining stocks to ensure food security in the country were also reviewed at length.
The need to take all these measures while protecting the consumer, the farming community and the producer was emphasized.
Discussions were also held to approve the import of maize, especially for the production of animal feed, after April 01.
Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation KD Lalkantha, who emphasized the need for a new system for importing maize, instructed to maintain the old system until it is implemented.
It was also stated that the right of citizens to choose food with diversity should be ensured and the opportunity to consume high-quality products should be provided.
The Food Policy and Security Committee aims to take relevant measures to achieve the government’s policy of ensuring a safe, healthy and sustainable food supply for all citizens.
Secretary to the Prime Minister G.P. Saputhanthree, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Kapila Janaka Bandara and other members of the Food Policy and Security Committee, consisting of ministry secretaries, were also present on this occasion.
ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතාව තහවුරු කිරීමට අදාළව ප්රතිපත්තිමය තීන්දු ගැනීම සඳහා කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරිමාර්ග අමාත්ය කේ.ඩී. ලාල්කාන්ත හා වෙළෙඳ, වාණිජ, ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතා සහ සමූපකාර සංවර්ධන අමාත්ය වසන්ත සමරසිංහ යන මහත්වරු සහ ආහාර ප්රතිපත්ති හා සුරක්ෂිතතා කමිටුවේ සාමාජිකයෝ සිව්වන වරටත් පාර්ලිමේන්තු සංකීර්ණයේදී අද (03) රැස් වූහ.
එළැඹෙන අලුත් අවුරුදු සමයේ ජනතාවට හිගයකින් තොරව සහන මිලට අත්යාවශ්ය ආහාර ද්රව්ය සැපයීම පිළිබඳ මෙහිදී දීර්ඝ ලෙස සාකච්ඡා කෙරුණු අතර රට තුළ ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතාව තහවුරු කිරීම සඳහා තොග පවත්වා ගැනීම ඇතුළු අනෙකුත් පියවර පිළිබඳව ද දීර්ඝ ලෙස සමාලෝචනය කෙරිණි.
පාරිභෝගිකයාත්, ගොවි ජනතාවත්, නිෂ්පාදකයාත් ආරක්ෂා කරගනිමින් මෙම සියලු පියවරයන් ගැනීමේ අවශ්යතාව මෙහිදී අවධාරණය කෙරිණි.
විශේෂයෙන් සත්ව ආහාර නිෂ්පාදනය සඳහා බඩඉරිගු ආනයනයට අප්රේල් 01 වැනිදායින් පසුව අනුමැතිය ලබා දීමට ද සාකච්ඡා විය.
බඩඉරිගු ආනයනයේදී නව ක්රමවේදයක අවශ්යතාව අවධාරණය කළ කෘෂිකර්ම, පශු සම්පත්, ඉඩම් සහ වාරි මාර්ග අමාත්යය කේඩී ලාල්කාන්ත මහතා එය ක්රියාත්මක වන තුරු පැරණි ක්රමවේදය පවත්වාගෙන යාමට උපදෙස් ලබා දුන්නේය.
විවිධත්වයෙන් යුතුව ආහාර තෝරා ගැනීමට පුරවැසියාට ඇති අයිතිය තහවුරු කිරීම සහ උසස් තත්ත්වයේ නිෂ්පාදන පරිභෝජනය කිරීමට අවස්ථාව ලබාදීය යුතු බවද මෙහිදී සඳහන් කෙරිණි.
සියලු පුරවැසියන් සඳහා සුරක්ෂිත, සෞඛ්යාරක්ෂිත සහ තිරසර ආහාර සැපයුමක් සහතික කර ලීමේ රජයේ ප්රතිපත්තිය සාක්ෂාත් කර ගැනීමට අදාළ ක්රියාමාර්ග ගැනීම ආහාර ප්රතිපත්ති හා සුරක්ෂිතතා කමිටුවේ අරමුණයි.
