The Election Commission says that it expects to take further steps after receiving the Local Government Elections Special Provisions Bill.
Its Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake stated that the requests made by the Opposition Leader today will also be considered.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa had requested the Election Commission to commence the entire process, including the call for fresh nominations, for the Local Government Elections after March 21.
This was during a discussion held among representatives of the Election Commission today.
This meeting was held after the Local Government Elections Special Provisions Bill was passed by a special majority vote in Parliament yesterday.

පළාත් පාලන ඡන්ද විමසීම් විශේෂ විධිවිධාන පනත් කෙටුම්පත මැතිවරණ කොමිෂන් සභාවට ලැබීමෙන් අනතුරුව ඉදිරි පියවර ගැනීමට අපේක්ෂා කරන බව මැතිවරණ කොමිසම පවසනවා.

පළාත් පාලන ආයතන ඡන්ද විමසීමට අදාළව අලුතින් නාමයෝජනා කැදවීම ඇතුළු සමස්ත ක්රියාවලිය මාර්තු 21 වැනිදායින් පසු ආරම්භ කරන ලෙස විපක්ෂ නායක සජිත් ප්රේමදාස මහතා මැතිවරණ කොමිෂන් සභාවෙන් ඉල්ලීමක් කර තිබුණා.
ඒ, මැතිවරණ කොමිෂන් සභාවේ නියෝජිතයින් අතර අද පැවති සාකච්ඡාවකදීයි.
පළාත් පාලන ආයතන ඡන්ද විමසීම් විශේෂ විධිවිධාන පනත් කෙටුම්පත පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේදී ඊයේ විශේෂ බහුතර ඡන්දයෙන් සම්මත වීමෙන් අනතුරුව මෙම රැස්වීම පැවැත්වුණා.
