The national power system, which was unstable due to a sudden power outage at the Panadura substation due to low electricity demand and high solar power generation, became unbalanced and the automatic emergency breakdown management process was unable to restore the system, resulting in a power outage across the entire island.
Although the national power system came close to such a dangerous situation on several previous Sundays, the engineers’ association says that a complete power outage was prevented due to the skill of the Ceylon Electricity Board’s system control unit.
However, they are of the opinion that the total power outage could not be prevented due to the weak state of the national power system today.
The statement states that the Sri Lanka Electricity Board and the Ministry of Energy are already working together to expedite projects related to electricity storage battery facilities and water pumping stations to take necessary measures to prevent such power outages in the future.
Furthermore, due to the power outage that occurred yesterday, the Norochcholai coal-fired power plant has also collapsed, and as a result, there will be frequent power cuts across the country in the next few days, according to reports from the Sri Lanka Electricity Board.
The collapse of the power plant, which generates 900 megawatts of electricity, has created a gap between demand and supply.
CEB sources say that this will lead to a power outage.

කෙසේවෙතත් අද දින ජාතික විදුලිබල පද්ධතිය පැවති දුර්වල තත්වය හේතුවෙන් සමස්ත විදුලි බිඳවැටීම වළක්වාගත නොහැකි වූ බව අනුමාන කරන බව ඔවුනගේ අදහසයි
මෙවැනි විදුලි බිඳවැටුම් ඉදිරියේදී සිදුනොවීම සඳහා අවශ්ය ක්රියාමාර්ග ගැනීමට විදුලිය ගබඩා කිරීමේ බැටරි පහසුකම් හා ජල පොම්ප බලාගාරවලට අදාළ ව්යාපෘති කඩිනම් කිරීමට දැනටමත් ලංකාවේ විදුලබල මණ්ඩලය හා බලශක්ති අමාත්යාංශය එක්ව කටයුතු කරමින් පවන බව එම නිවේදනයේ සඳහන්ය
තවද ඊයේ ඇති වූ විදුලිය විසන්ධි වීම හේතුවෙන් නොරොච්චෝලේ ගල් අඟුරු බලාගාරයද බිඳවැටී ඇති අතර, එම හේතුවෙන් ඉදිරි දින කිහිපය තුළ රට පුරා නිරන්තර විදුලි කප්පාදුවක් සිදුවනු ඇතැයි ලංකා විදුලි බල මණ්ඩල වාර්තා සඳහන් කරයි.
මෙගාවොට් 900 ක විදුලිය ජනනය කරන බලාගාරයේ බිඳවැටීම හේතුවෙන් ඉල්ලුම සහ සැපයුම අතර පරතරයක් නිර්මාණය වී ඇත.
එය විදුලි කප්පාදුවකට හේතුවනු ඇතැයි ලංවිම ආරංචි මාර්ග සඳහන් කරයි.
