Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that all government MPs agree to abolish MP pensions.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated this while speaking in Parliament yesterday (07) after UNP Deputy Leader MP Ravi Karunanayake presented a private member’s motion to abolish MP pensions.
The Prime Minister, who further expressed her views, said:
“We have been talking about reducing parliamentary privileges and stopping the pensions of MPs since around 2001. I am happy that an opposition MP has presented that proposal to Parliament today, and all of us MPs agree to this proposal. But I am saddened. Even when there is a proposal that everyone should agree on, some opposition members do not agree to change that culture. Those members are still talking about other topics without speaking in favor of the proposal made by an opposition member. They are still not ready to reduce privileges.

මන්ත්රී විශ්රාම වැටුප් අහෝසි කිරීම පිළිබඳ ආණ්ඩුවේ සියලු මන්ත්රීවරුන් එකඟතාව පළකරන බව අග්රාමාත්ය ආචාර්ය හරිනි අමරසූරිය සඳහන් කළේය.
එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂ නියෝජ්ය නායක පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රී රවී කරුණානායක විසින් මන්ත්රී විශ්රාම වැටුප් අහෝසි කිරීම පිලිබඳ පෞද්ගලික මන්ත්රී යෝජනාව ඉදිරිපත් කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව ඊයේ (07) පාර්ලිමේන්තුවේ දී අදහස් දක්වමින් අග්රාමාත්ය ආචාර්ය හරිනි අමරසූරිය මේ බව සඳහන් කළාය.
මෙහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දැක් වු අග්රාමාත්යවරිය මෙසේ පැවැසුවාය.
“පාර්ලිමේන්තු වරප්රසාද අඩු කිරීම ගැන පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්රීවරුන්ගේ විශ්රාම වැටුප් නතර කිරීම පිලිබඳව අපි කථා කළේ 2001 පමණ ඉදලා. මම සතුටු වෙනවා විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්රීවරයෙක්ම අද ඒ යෝජනාව පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට ඉදිරිපත් කළ එකට, අපි මන්ත්රීවරු සියළු දෙනාම මේ යෝජනාවට එකඟතාවය පළ කරනවා. නමුත් මම කනගාටු වෙනවා. සියළු දෙනාම එකඟ වියයුතු යෝජනාවකදී වත් විපක්ෂයේ සමහර මන්ත්රීවරු එකඟ නෑ ඒ සංස්කෘතිය වෙනස් වෙනවට. විපක්ෂයේ මන්ත්රීවරයෙක් කළ යෝජනාවට පක්ෂව කතා නොකර වෙනත් මාතෘකා පිළිබඳව තවමත් ඒ මන්ත්රීවරු කතා කරනවා. තවමත් ඔවුන් සූදානම් නැහැ වරප්රසාද අඩු කරනවාට
