The protesters demanded the resignation of the Attorney General and demanded transparency regarding the orders to release three key suspects in the Lasantha Wickramatunga murder case.
On January 27, Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe informed the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that legal proceedings against three key suspects in the case would not continue.
According to the letter, former military intelligence officer Prem Ananda Udalagama, former OIC of the Mount Lavinia Crime Branch Sub-Inspector Tissasiri Sugathapala and former DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara could be released.
Responding to criticism of the Attorney General’s recommendation, the government said it would investigate the matter and conduct a study on it.

ජනවාරි 27 වන දින නීතිපති පාරින්ද රණසිංහ අපරාධ විමර්ශන දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ (CID) අධ්යක්ෂවරයාට දැනුම්දුන්නේ නඩුවේ ප්රධාන සැකකරුවන් තිදෙනෙකුට එරෙහිව නීතිමය කටයුතු අඛණ්ඩව සිදුනොවන බවයි.
