The death toll from an unidentified fever outbreak in Jaffna has risen to 5, said Jaffna Teaching Hospital Director Dr. T. Sathyamoorthy.
The deceased are between the ages of 20 and 65 and died of fever and respiratory complications.
The cases are suspected to be leptospirosis (rat fever), and blood samples have been sent to Colombo for confirmation.
Three deaths were previously reported due to the disease, prompting health authorities to intensify investigations into the cause.
According to the Epidemiology Division of the Ministry of Health, efforts are being made to control the disease and provide treatment to those affected.

මෙම සිදුවීම් ලෙප්ටොස්පයිරෝසිස් (මී උණ) යැයි සැකකරන අතර, ඒ බව තහවුරු කිරීම සඳහා රුධිර සාම්පල කොළඹට යවා ඇත.
මීට පෙර මෙම රෝගී තත්ත්වය හේතුවෙන් මරණ 3ක් වාර්තා වූ අතර, ඊට හේතුව පිළිබඳව පරීක්ෂණ තීව්ර කිරීමට සෞඛ්ය බලධාරීන් පොළඹවා ඇත.
සෞඛ්ය අමාත්යාංශයේ වසංගත රෝග විද්යා අංශයට අනුව, රෝගය පාලනය කිරීමට සහ පීඩාවට පත්වූවන්ට ප්රතිකාර ලබාදීමට උත්සාහ කරමින් සිටී.
