Breastfeeding
Sri Lanka ranks among the highest in the world in terms of breastfeeding indicators, and it is reported that Sri Lanka has become the first country to be granted ‘Green Status’ by the World Breastfeeding Trends initiative (WBTi).
The government has announced that the Cabinet has approved on 16-10-2018 to introduce legal provisions through an Act to promote breastfeeding with the aim of protecting children from the unethical and harmful effects of the milk powder industry on children for commercial purposes, protecting the health and nutrition of children, protecting breastfeeding as a scientifically proven key intervention, and ensuring that the country continues to be recognized as a global leader in breastfeeding.

වාණිජමය පරමාර්ථ මුල් කර ගෙන කිරිපිටි කර්මාන්තය මඟින් දරුවන් වෙත එල්ල වන සදාචාර විරෝධී සහ හානිකර බලපෑම්වලින් දරුවන් ආරක්ෂා කරමින් දරුවන්ගේ සෞඛ්ය සහ පෝෂණය ආරක්ෂා කිරීමත්, විද්යාත්මකව තහවුරුව ඇති ප්රධානතම මැදිහත් වීමක් ලෙස සලකා මව්කිරි දීම ආරක්ෂා කිරීමත්, මව්කිරි දීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් ගෝලීය ප්රමුඛයා ලෙස මෙරටට ඇති පිළිගැනීම අඛණ්ඩව පවත්වා ගැනීම සහතික කිරීමත් අරමුණු කරගෙන මව්කිරි දීම ප්රවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා පනතක් මඟින් නීතිමය විධිවිධාන හඳුන්වා දීම පිණිස 2018-10-16 දින අමාත්ය මණ්ඩලය විසින් අනුමැතිය ලබා දී ඇති බවයි රජය ප්රකාශ කර සිටින්නේ.
